Hi guys,

As Im sure you all know, we have been quietly working away on next years main event for some time now. Hell we had to start early - how do you top Ben Prestage?!

There will be some slight changes this year, though we will be keeping true to our roots.

First big change is a new city and a new venue. In an attempt to reach a wider audience and to attract some of our fellow CBGers from 'oop norf', we are taking the show straight up the M6. To Manchester!

Im sure you all know that Mad-chester has a vibrant music scene, good road and rail links and, some great venues. Like 'Band On The Wall'. For those who dont know, Band on the Wall is a historic live music venue, so named as the bands used to play on a platform suspended half way up the wall!

Now fully refurb'd to a high standard, and run as a charitable organisation, they are very in tune with what we do. Check out their website for more info http://bandonthewall.org/

The date for your diary is Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September 2012

Again we will be running a 2 day event, with an open mic and free gig on the friday, the usual Saturday daytime tomfoolery, and then the main gig on the Sat evening.

And what a gig this will be! We already have three superb international artists confirmed, but we have one more trick up our sleeve. As soon as we know more we will post the details here!

I promise you this though.... Its going to be a blinder!

*STOP PRESS* The Friday night open mic and free Hollowbelly gig will be at;

The Salutation, 2 Higher Chatham Street, Manchester. M15 6ED

Drat.... it's further west and on a weekend where I'm unlikely to be able to get the Sunday off.....

Sorry... didn't mean to start the replies on a downer. I'll be negotiating the time off in earnest......

It's taken us a while to secure the venue and the date, as we've been sussing out various alternatives, talking to artists and doing a lot of hard sums to make sure it all stacks up. The Public served us very well over the past couple of years: in terms of facilities and helpfulness they set the bar pretty high, but it's ever onwards an upwards, so we are building on what we've achieved so far, and we have to be willing to try something different to keep things fresh and vibrant.

There will be plenty more news as we tighten up the details. I must say, having Ben and Ant sussing out venues and performers has taken a big part of the workload off me, although I'm spending even more of my time on HGMC business than ever!

Whooppee! Its in the calendar already!!

Awesome!  I'll be able to get to this one, I'll start saving!

After having such a great time this year, I cannot wait for next September to come around. great work guys.Looks like a great venue choice.Looking forward to seeing who will be playing!

Cheers

Alan

Sounds good guys hope i'll be able to make it this time !

Great work guys - having a date this far ahead is an excellent start.

Well..even at this relatively early date we couldn't have the weekend we really wanted, despite starting planning the week after this year's Boxstock...I'm already making enquiries about other events for 2013 (yes, that's not a typo, I really  do mean the year after next!)!

Hopefully by releasing the date now, folk will have time to explain to the wife why the wont be going on the family holiday next year, or attending that wedding. Or work.... Chris?

I should be able to confirm the line up within the next week or so, and I am so excited! It is amazingly difficult to find fresh (and affordable!) talent that is in tune with what we do, but I think we've cracked it...

Watch this space!

Packed and ready.

Good idea to get a date sorted early, and I'm glad you managed not to clash with my annual BBQ (and now CBG performance event) on the 1st of September.

I know it's easy to criticise, and that a lot of work and thought goes into this, but the move from a central location to a northern one does leave those of us down south rather at a disadvantage. It seems that the CBG scene is stronger up north and this is only likely to make that worse.

This isn't just a personal gripe, as I probably have free accommodation near Manchester, where as I didn't near West Brom. Of course someone (not me) could organise a southern version, but I don't think that is the answer. I think it is the meeting of people from all over the country that makes it really special. That was one of the best things for me about this years events. The performances were great, but I think I got even more enjoyment from shaking the hands of people I had previously only talked to through this site.

Anyway, thanks to all those involved in putting this together.

John (down south)
