Ohm Ratings

Electronic newbie here. Bought a CBG Electronics kit from C.B. Gitty for my first build. All works well when the volume is turned all the way up "10", but it goes dead at about "7". The kit comes with a 500K Ohm pot. Should I try a different Ohm rating, and if so what? I really don't know much about Ohms other then it's a rating of resistance, but which is more, which is less IDK. I have a 25 ohm pot from Radio Shack laying around, would this be less resistance and would it give me a full volume range with the Piezo?

It kind of sounds like it might be a bad pot.

I don't think ohms really matter too much with piezos. I would suggest hooking up the 25k pot temporarily first with some of those alligator clip test leads if you have any laying around and see how it sounds.

You can get test leads from Radio Shack too. They're great for temporarily hooking up circuits and testing things out before committing it to solder.
