Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

From North of Charleston, West Virginia. (local)
Looking for fellow Hill Billys who share the Git interest.
Would be nice to be able to meet some local builders.
Played Bluegrass since a Child, now retired I built a wood shop.
What to make, decided CBG.
Hello everyone. I'm from the mid-Michigan (LP) area. Retired from the State of Michigan 4 years ago. I have always enjoyed listening to music and wanted to make some, especially the Blues, on some instrument. Tried a standard 6-string guitar and found my fingers to be a little short. Came across a CBG maker at the East Lansing Art Festival and bought one of his creations. It fit like a glove. I have a background in woodworking so I thought I would try my hand at making these. I don't know if this is the place to ask this but is there anyone from this area that would be interested in getting together over a brew and discussing CBGs, making and playing them... Anyway, that's a little about me.
Hi Lenny, that's for the c.b. gitty info, i'll look at it to . I also make native American style flutes, I don't play real well, but I'm working on it. I love building CBG's and flute's. It is very calming to me.
I just bought a"Pure and Simple" Flying Bridge Model #1 from C. B. Gitty and plan on modifying that. I have never built a guitar or ukulele but have done a dulcimer. So I will use this to get started and then will see about building a couple of 2,3,4 & more stringed thingies. I make flutes and have done dijeridoo, birimbau and a few other odd instruments. I play harmonica, Native American Flute, Pennywhistle and a few other end and side blown flutes. I Need to play something that I can sing along with so will try the simple guitars first. I am glad at 62 I can start adding to my music and creative skills and learn from you who have contributed to this CBG group called Cigar Box Nation.
Welcome to the Nation Colum. Once you build the first there are surely more to follow.
How's it goin' fellow CBGers?,
I am from Ireland. Just coming to the end of my first build. Never did woodwork and don't have these fantastic workshop/sheds like the guys online. Its been a kitchen/backyard build. In hindsight... A set of clamps would have been good hahahahaha.
Been using Mordacai Bondurant's 'Gittyman's CBG Manual' for first time builders. Good instructions but you do need some essential tools for cutting out pieces (neck and part that goes inside box). Also as this is for the market Stateside, I found it hard to source things in Ireland.
But nearly there and hope to put up stage photos soon
Good luck y'all
Nice looking builds Larry. Just be aware that this stuff can be addictive.
Hello CBG world!
I'm a retired Homebuilder from Las Vegas. Always liked woodworking, so needed something to do so I wouldn't go crazy. Started out in 2007 and started with Acoustic guitars. My son's play but I couldn't figure the music end out! Was looking for guitar articles on line one day and came across CBG Nation and was hooked ever since. Use to take me 6 months to make one Acoustic guitar but CBG's only take a week. I like the quick turnaround so I can start on the next project. Here are a few that I've finished so far.

If anybody out there is from the Phoenix area, send me a reply, it would be cool to talk to someone in the area!
