I just completed my first CBG build using the kit from CB Gitty and I'm hooked. I have so many more ideas. My question is while this first guitar is fret less to be played with a slide, the action is very very high. I don't think you could play a fret if you wanted to. I didn't use the nut and bridge that came in the kit I had smaller pieces I could use and it's a bit lower but still high. My neck is just a plain poplar 1 x 2, 25" scale. Thanks guys I really look forward to this hobby of building and playing.

I figured it doesn't matter since it's technically fretless. Although I did cut the fret lines and filled with with wood filler. When sanded it gave a great contrast in color so you still see where the frets are. However, how would you go about adjusting the action? The size of the bridge and nut?
I had a very thin bolt on there at first but the threads were so fine that the strings kept jumping.
If your using thicker strings then although you don't have to really play any notes it's good if you can (just like a fretless bass guitar) and having the action low enough to hit these notes makes sense.
It's better to have the option to do something than not be able to because string action gets in the way. Even if that note is a dull thump.
I say work with it, you have built it, have a mess around with it and see what you can make it accomplish. The next build take that into account and build something that suits the way to want to play. I've seen CBGs with fretting only on the bass side of the fretboard because that player only wanted that string to be fretted, with the middle and high string being fretless to use with a slide.
Mix and match and build to requirements. It's fun.
