Hi All!
Found CBG's one day on youtube and built two so far...never played a tune in my life! Learning more about it every day though.
The two that I have built have developed a ring over time. One is fretless, high action and the other has frets with a lower action. Also, both have strings for open G tuning. About a month after completion eached started to ring. Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks,
Mark

Need a little more info Mark and pics are great too. Is the ringing acoutstic or when you are amped up? What are the saddle and nut made of? What kind of strings? A lot of variables to contend with.
string ring is usually attributated to break angle at the nut or bridge .. and / or slot depth issues in either , or both . also a string cutting into the wood (without a furrel) may do this .
you could also try up tuning .
I am using acoustic .044W, .034W .026W on the left guitar and the other is a set of light medium. The guitar on the left, bridge is a wrench and the nut is a bolt. Angles there are fairly flat. The other has a bolt for a bridge and the nut is some kind of plastic from a scrapped guitar. The ringing didn't start until a few weeks after use and is most noticeable when all strings are dampened at once.
Sounds like yer pick up is vibrating? maybe you'll want to fasten it down a little tighter.
It could also be due to string tension or lack of. maybe you need to add a string tree between
the nut & tuners? this will add downward pressure on the strings & thus taking away string buzz.
You might want to check the back where the strings come thru the tail, maybe they're digging into
the wood, you can shim that by sliding some small washers onto yer strings so that they sit on the
top of the tail between the strings & wood. hope this helped.
Happy strummin'
