Welcome aboard, James! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBB, CBU, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).
Yeah they sure do! You don't need to plug them into an Amp. They are the shit's....pun intended. They have a loud volume to them with a natural tremolo sound comming out of the pan. Did you hear Chris Anderson from the Outlaws Band play the one he got from my brother Rat Daddy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6G-gSs6dNE . Watch all of the videos, these guys are amazing. first time playing an open tuned CBG and improv their own songs.
James,
Can that CBAmp get a "great" sound? Well, it's all relative, right? Will it sound like a 40W tube amp? Not even close. Does it sound like a decent 2W practice amp. Yep, and you can check out my video "Gotta Love Them Cigar Box Instruments" to hear it in action. Thanks for the comments!
Hey James, thanks for the comments on the tuners... They are a little more work but I think they complete that old time guitar look.... If you try them make certain that you stay away from the ones that are designed for classical guitars or you will be forced to use light strings which could impact your tuning options... Take care - Jim
Hey James I caught myself looking at a bedpan at the flea market this weekend remembering your comments about how good they sound as cbg. But the guy wanted $65.00 and suddenly I was cheap.... Is that what they go for???? Should I go back this weekend? When did you leave Florida? Take care. Jim
Did you know a Don Blitch from Gainesville? He went to high school around here, and used to open a lot for Gamble Rogers. He moved out to the Austin music scene for 20 years, but moved back & took over his dad's pool maintenance biz when he got married & started having kids in the early 90's.,
He plays guitars & sings well, but is probably an even better killer blues harp guy. He plays a CBG with long time friend Glenn Moody in a duo called, "Cracker the Box".
You & Don are near the same age. Was familiar with Tom Petty, & the Leaden brother with some connection to the Eagles, etc. but I believe he lived in Earleton so I guess he went to Sante Fe HS, if there was such a thing then. One of the bands he was in was called the Earleton Gonzo Band. He & buddy Glenn both play Big Daddy Mojo cbg's. And I know they're on this site.
I'm lookin' to buy some kind of fretless bass CBG when I get some disposable income. I'll be in touch. Glory & Bliss.
James, thanks so much for the welcome to the CBN! I am definitely diggin' the cigar box sound. Also I would love to jam sometime here in town. Do you do jams with other local musicians?
That sounds good. We'll keep in touch about jammin sometime. Love the shop website too. I might have to look at purchasing an instrument from your shop sometime.
