Beautiful Re-use. I get a kick out of making something from my neighbors garbage and then them wanting to buy it back from me.

    Hello,
I have started a CBN group entitled, "How to Play CBG" It is my hope and intention to encourage the "Wealth of Talent" here on the Nation to share their knowledge and skill to further the CBG movement. Please consider contributing an instructional "video" link to this group. If you are a viewer seeking instruction, please feel free to write. If you have any suggestions or know other players who you think may want to post instructional "video" links, please contact me. Thank you for your interest and support, Keni Lee

your blogspot is very well done...i am trying to set one up right now...I cant believe that is your first build...looks and sounds great...and that voice! Europeans must be melting and falling into canals.
    peace to ya
  • Delvero

Shelley, can't wait to see and hear more from you! Working today on finishing a 3 string, and have wanted to do a ukulele ever since i saw your video! Hope all is well with you.....
  • Delvero

Yes i did, need to string it up and hear it sing!
  • Delvero

Hope your weather is nice there! I was in Italy last week and it rained and rained and rained, now back home and it like fall already! Need to go somewhere tropic!
  • Dianne Woods

Hey Shelley, no, I haven't started making one yet. I visited the hardware store Friday to get some ideas and stuff to make one. I need to buy a saw to cut the fret holes. I hope I don't mess up the first one I try, cause it is a candy tin with a pretty scene. I am not sure how to do it yet. I am going to try.
  • Vince Stark

Have you noticed there is a CBG Uke Group on here now?! There's only three of us, and I know little about them. See you there!
  • Andy Stone

I've just found your blogger blog! Much better than mine! Adding you!
  • Andy Stone

Two weeks? I made mine in 4 and thought it was fast!
  • Gobi

    Good morning Shelly!
I also loved to search around on your website!
On mine, it is'nt special figured out, how much I work with found and used parts and materials, to create my own stuff... I#m just have started to build a special site about this point, but it's nearly not finished:
    http://www.stabil-berlin.de/gobis_welt.html

About your touring plans: I'm not verry in this point of playing somwhere, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.
Berlin is an interesting place, sometimes rough in a way...
Allways on 21. Jun ther is the "Fête de la Musique" where bands and people play in the hole town - I think you know this also in Netherlands.... but it's all for free.
To get engaged, I think it would be a good idear to talk with some bars, to play there... I could give you some names and contacts.
    Hope to see you sometimes!
(and sorry for my bad english, hopfully mixing with duch will do it)
    ;)

    Shelly,
Your web-site is fantastic and I truly love the ukulele #1. Wanted to see if you had any pics on your uku #2. You totally had me with the string guard. I'm wondering how the heck you fixed the strings to it until I watched you vid. You pulled it off and it has velcro!!! Woe, you're goooood!

    cheers,
    John
  • ani mcneice

    Hi Shelly
Lovely to hear from you! What a fab instrument you have created, really sweet. =)
I have been planning on building a CBG for a while but have been busy with music and photography stuff.
I am building a bouzouki at the moment and will post photos soon as i can.
I def need to build something cigarbox related tho! I just seem to be stuck on building the neck, did you make yours from plans?
Ukulele Festival of Great Britain sounds great and would def like to come if gigs allow.
I hope you will be playing your uke?
Great voice you have also, really enjoyed the video.
Do you have a myspace or facebook?
    Hope to meet up soon
    Ani xx
  • BluesBeaten Redshaw

    Hey Shelly!

Yeah 'Dust My Broom' would be a good one to do...I wasn't sure how much of a cliche it would be though? The broom-bow doesn't compare to the beautiful craftmanship of your uke there though, and there's a beautiful person and song to go with it!

    Have a lovely day!

    Redd!
  • Mama Mojo

Hey, sure thing Shelly! It's great to see some talented women here on the Nation and you sure fit that bill! Happy to have you over in the new Women's Group!!!! Best, Lana

  • Rickshaw Ron

Hi I thought I recognized you from your ukulele music. I think I favorited some of you songs on youtube. Great to see you here!
  • John Nagy

Did you finish your second uke yet? Any progress pics? I'll be posting my first hopefully by this weekend. Finishing touches is all left.
  • Al Allen (Hangten)

Shelley, thanks for the reply and the website for the bobbins. I assume that you tapered them yourself for a friction fit? I'll look into them more closely because they give a unique air to your UKE and I really like that. Keep those videos coming on Youtube I really get a kick out of them. Al
  • Al Allen (Hangten)

Shelley, will do. Thanks for the further info. I'll check out your other videos. Seems like you enjoy entertaining, good for you.
  • Keith Parmer

Thanks Shelley, now all I have to do is learn how to play them.
  • Michael J. Latoski

three canjos and a soprano uke are next on my list !
  • Perfesser Blue

Thanks you for the compliment. That guitar with the oval soundhole I call the "Hobo's Freind" It is a full parlour scale guitar with a bigger box, silver spoons for a handy carrying handle, yes, the record is my standard pickguard now. I will be putting in a truss rod into the future models, I guess with 6 steel strings it needs the extra help.
Most of the songs on my page here are recorded with that guitar. A couple were recorded with the little Padron Ukelele. I think you would enjoy the Lil' Hobo Uke.
Want more? I also have some material at www.myspcae.com/zbblue
And thank you the your kind response...I love your video!
    Cheers! And Here's To You!

  • Barry Evan Russ

That is a beaut. Especially the tuners. Awesome build.
  • Barry Evan Russ

Oh thanks, I pulled that pan out of a box of my mom's kitchenware from the 50's. i think it's an old aluminum pot rest. it has "Griswold" stamped on it. One of a kind, and her sauce pot top rests underneath for the resonator cone. I'm into recycling as well. The neck is hand carved from a cedar chest I found in the dumpster. I look forward to more builds from you, and your lovely singing.
  • Gutbucketeer (Jim Bunch)

Washtub Bass and CBG Uke - Oh Yeah. I'm in love :-).

    Thank's for your comment, Shelley!

Is great to receive any kind of feedback, even when it seems to be a little challenger!

ASAP, I'll be posting some updates on my project and also the status of the progress of it's building process.

Nice to meet you, and I liked too much your works, based on what I read on Your Profile and Blog.

Just ran across you pics of the Romeo & Juliet box guitar you made. Very impressed with the inventivness of you work! Those tuning pegs are cool.
  • Steve

  • Jared King

Have you recorded anything I can purchase to support your efforts? Thanks to your blog and inspiration, I'm planning on building a washtub bass, and one of my next two builds is going to be a uke.
  • Marvin Wayne Troxel

  • ProfWaldo

Hey, good to stumble across you here Shelly. You may or may not remember the odd little man from YT, Profwaldo. Well, I've come-out of the cigar box and dropped the monicker. Great minds think alike I guess, ha-ha-ha. Have fun n' take care ! Wally :-)
  • ProfWaldo

Don't waste your time Shelly, I've had 57 years to figure out who I am and I'm still not sure that I'm sure. YT? That's short for Yucatan. Although some people on the net use YT as an abbreviation for youtube.
Moniker ?...did I say that ? I'm sorry, I wear tri-focals...huh, my mistake.
Ya' know, I could be mistaken. It's quite possible there's another uke-playin', uke-buildin',
woman livin' in the Netherlands that bears some similarities with you. Strange, cuz' I usually have a good memory. Well, I admit it's really short..., but it's good. Okee-Dokee then, uhm...sorry to intersturb you. Nice meetin' ya' tho', take care. :-) Wally
  • ProfWaldo

I learned a lot from my grandfather and my father unwittingly allowed me to learn even more by ruining his tools. My grandfather once told me, after I ruined something,
"You're not a good craftsman until you learn how to fix all of your mistakes"
It would be nice to build just what I want to build, every day. But gosh-darn reality n' bills keep gettin' in the way. ;-)
  • Keni Lee Burgess

I was looking at your post of the antique roadshow CBG. Thanks for posting. I always enjoy seeing the real deals. They definitely over valued it. If it was complete and fully functional, yes, but in it's condition maybe $250 tops. Enjoy.

    thanks for add lady......

  • Servaas (Der Groovemeister)

Hoi Shelley, Dank voor je leuke reactie. Ik kom waarschijnlijk op 3 feb even kijken in de Unie. 27 feb weet ik nog niet of ik kan. In wat voor bezetting speel je dan? Met band of duo?

    Groetjes,

    Servaas

  • James Hank...AKA Jim-man

Hi Shelly, yes thats the one. Do you have any measurments for the design? I did play one. it had a awesome loud booming sound like one would expect from a good quality uke. My understanding is that Sam Kamaka made many of these ukes. I saw one on e-bay a couple of monthe ago. I'm getting materials together to make a few of these uklele. I have 5 of the correct boxes now. regards, James
  • paulr66

  • Denys Lord

Shelley to answer your question about the bottle cap piezo's I buy them like that, they are made in Canada
  • Jess

Shelley:  It is easy to see your graphic arts ability in your creations.  Stop by my blog sometime (http://totalrojoguitars.blogspot.com/) and let me know what you think.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • Jess

Thanks for the comments Shelley.  The Camacho amp is the result of my unwillingness to cut up the box for speaker opening, etc., and it worked out quite nicely, and sounds great, too.  I hope to attempt a uke in the near future, and I hope I can pick your brain for basic details, e.g., scale length, number of frets, and other important stuff.  I really appreciate your creativity and the results produced.  Have a great day, Jess.
