Hey Penny, where you been? We haven't heard from you on the Women's Group.

Nice first build. Keep it up girl.

  • Dianne Woods

Did the floods do damage to your place?

It sounds like you have been dealing with alot of changes in your life.

I am glad you will be on the site more. Take care.

  • Dianne Woods

Penny, I am so glad you wasn't flooded. I imagine you were busy.

It is a bad thing to loose everything, I just can't even imagine. My cousin in New Hampshire has been flooded three times. They live right near the river. Finally, they had their cabin raised up on stilts, now just the basement gets flooded. Between the lots of rain and snow they have up there; they are bound to get flooded.

My husband and I were up there one summer when it was raining, renting a cottage on the river. One early morning, we were awaken by some people telling us to evacate. Boy, did it scare my husband; we had never been in that situation before. Water was already flowing into the cabin under the doors, and we didn't know it until those people woke us up. We were staying just a few doors up from where my cousin lives. We helped them put things on top of stuff so it wouldn't get wet, then we had to leave. I hated to leave her. There wasn't much else we could do.

hi penny, thanks for the friendship! i've done two numberplate cbgs and the strange thing is no two plates sound the same. luck with the build
  • David L.

    Hi Penny,

You asked about the wiring on my latest CBG - I kind of wired it up as I went so didn't have a full schematic (more of a flow chart).  It was really made up from a couple of seymour duncan wiring diagrams, a ready made piezo kit (modified to use discs rather than a rod) and an old preamp I had.  If you have a particular electronic setup you are thinking of let me know and I'll try and find you a diagram.

    Thank you for the interest.

    Regards,

    David

There's quite a few youtube vids of double neck cigar box gats, but this is the one that made me think, yeah! I want to build one of those. The idea of using separate outs and having two distinct sounds by putting them into different amps/fx really appeals. Then I thought OK, what can I do to give the most variation between the two necks? So a slide with humbucker on one (better for slide cos you get more sustain thru the amp) and a tenor scale 4 string on the other which could be tuned tenor (GDae) or whatever but most imprtantly true tenor scale (585mm), and that one on a piezo bridge. So you could set up a nice drone on the slide, and then blaze on the tenor. Even just having a true slide gat and a fretted 4 string on one instrument is very handy. And of course, it's ridiculously over-the-top ROCK so I like that.

hey penny, thanks for the shout:0)
  • bemuzic

    cool, thanks!
  • dogfinger steve

Hi Penny, the sound square sound holes don't seem to have much effect as far as i can tell, will have to build a cbg with two tops and experiment:0)
  • Richard G Caudill

I saw that one someone else's ,,, I didn t wanta cut a hole in face ,, so i followed the example ,, gotta say Penny  it surely does make a diffenece ,, git is still loud ,, but u can hear it so much better as the sound come out the top .. if u playing with other people  surely makes a diffenece ,,,  I think I gonna continue to use that a lot ....

I think it was one of uncle john's ideas ,, not sure   glad to have ya as a friend

  • Hippy Chip

I like your work, greetings from the other side of the world, I am in central Florida, and CBG's are not really popular here--- yet--- I plan to change that!!!!

I am searching for other florida CBG builders and/or players.

So far I have sold only one guitar--a sixer.

I have orders for 5 more. whatever it takes to feed my building habit.

I hope to get more people to learn to play the 3 and 4's

  • Ice Bob

i loved code of the catus on bemusic's song files keep up the good work
  • Ice Bob

I'd love that was that you on the didge?
  • Richard G Caudill

Penny ,, I just did one the radio thingies today ,, I found it to b in the volume pot ,,I hooked up red to red ,, black to black  and it let me into the speakers ,, without killing any of the properties of the little tape deck ,, it sound good ,,,  has 8 ohm  and a 1 watt speaker  <gonna look for a stronger speaker, same size>   it was a child s tape recorder ,, the tape plays ,, it will record  ,,has it's own hand held  mic ,,    I happy danced all over kitchen when it all worked  !!!    From what i can gather from these guys that really know what they doing ,, make sure u use battery power or the plug in will fry ur pickups  ,, not sure about the piezo

Sure thing, Penny!  I posted the demo to my FB page as well.... and BTW, I LOVE that pic of the gals playing Uke "Bonnie Ann'ee 2012 on your profile page!  Awesome!!

  • David L.

I loved the Gasong Drum - what a pure dreamy tone it gives.  it was also great to recently see the Art Deco CBG finished - it sounds top quality :O)

  • Clock The Wolf

       "Woof woof!"  Hi!!!

  • darren brown

haha yes it happens thanks penny .

  • David L.

    Hi Penny,

I finally got my summer/autumn/winter project finished - longest time ever to make one little guitar!!!http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/front-side-finished more pics on my page - I found sticking a small frame around the preamp helps hide the fact it has a big curve on it for a regular guitar.

    Hope you are well,

    David

  • Theo

Ha there, sorry to take so long to say hi. What are you working on now?

  • Hillbilly Hobo

    Great pics.

How was the ol' furry Man?

    Open mic sounds cool.

Was glad that storm missed us. No rain this year and only one day last year. Unbelievable!

  • Glenn Reither

If I was a smarty pants I would not have drunk solidly from 1pm to 6am. Broken.

  • Glenn Reither

Honestly, I despair at people's lack of adventure when it comes to food. It was a GREAT meal. I pulled up better than everyone else, despite being the last man standing, so that should tell you something about my liver.

  • Paul 'PapaHogg' Smith

Hi Penny, thank you for the friend request. I really enjoyed your video earlier. Great sound and a really great looking build. All the best Paul

  • Dave Lynas

Hey Penny, thanks for the friends request. I'd be proud to be your friend. I like your stuff. I'll be listening to that video next.... Dave

  • Dave Lynas

Hey Penny, nice music videos. That fluffy tin really rocks. I still lack the gear to make videos. Maybe soon for me. I've got one of my own tunes posted now. It's off my new release "Holy Smokes". Say, did that bridge let loose while you were pickin. I've had that happen twice now. Even with the soundboard sanded to raw wood. Crap happens. .. Dave

  • Dave Lynas

Explosion is the right term. When they let go it's as loud as they get! Wild! You're always apprehensive when first tuning a new build. I often break strings birthing new instruments, but when the bridge blows it's special terror...

  • Dave Lynas

Ya it's "Eye Lashes"... a whole new meaning. Good idea with the safety glasses. With my builds a Hazmat suit might be useful as well...

  • Soulman O'Gaia

Only Just spotted the friend request. Thanks!!

  • THAT DEAD SPACE
