How did you learn about Cigar Box Nation?
Learned about CBG's after finding and old plan for the Uncle Enos Banjo in a BOY Mechanic book . The plan was authored by Dan Carter Beard, founder of Boy Scouts. After searching the internet for more info I found Cigar Box Nation.

Welcome aboard, Tracy! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBU, CBB, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).

Up in the Free Resources menu at the top, you will see a number of plans for building and playing cigar box guitars/ukuleles/banjos/dulcimers/violins. I encourage you to download any of the plans, take a look at them, and ask questions from there. Also our site is VERY searchable. I bet you your questions have already been asked, so take a few moments and look around.

Join our Chat sometime (see the bar at the bottom of your browser page). Keep in mind that tho the chat window says there are X number of people online, not all may have the chat window up.

    Most of all, have fun!

Welcome Tracy to the CBG Nation. You have some nice builds. Keep it up.
  • Dianne Woods

Tracy, you are very welcome. No, I don't think your builds are garbage. I get excited, and want to finish in a hurry, too. But I step back and think what would happen if I do this or that---so it takes me a while. It would be faster if I was building the same style every time, but I like something different; it is a challenage, and fun. I forget about everything else while I am working on my CBGs.

thank you for your nice comment. i read a sign one day that said: aspire to inspire before you expire, so with theses words i use a talent that i have to be imaginative and express my imagination as much as i can by building things like these great little cigar box guitars. to me its great fun and i build all of them all by hand while sitting in a chair. the only power tool i use is a battery powered drill. i build most of them so that they can be taken apart very easily, but its still great fun to plan and build them all. thanks again.

Imitations happen, but it's not hard to keep ahead of the heard if you keep pushing yourself to do more and don't get comfortable.

hey tracy just stopped by ta answer yer question about how i get the holes cut so smoothly. i have some hole saw bits i use in my battery powered drill. there are 4 different sizes in the set. but for holes larger than 2 in. i cut them with a coping saw then use a fine rasp to smooth out the edges to make the hole look nice and proportioned.
  • bairfoot cajun

hello tracy on those holes i cut with the hole saw bit the paper curls up just a tiny bit and the hole saw bit cuts real clean so for the curls i just use that fine rasp and it takes the curls out real clean like.

Very interesting idea adding the resonator back. Do you have video or audio? I would love to hear it. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy.
  • bairfoot cajun

hey man, congrats on the front page featured instrument.lots of mojo just flows from that double box build yep. great idea no doubt. double box ought to double the acoustic volume.
  • Keni Lee Burgess

Tracy...you must learn to play. It is vital to your understand of building. Not being a builder myself, I built one CBG with the help of my friend, Bill. I learned a lot. As a player, understand construction of a guitar helps you in the selection of an instrument and understanding how they achieve their dynamic qualities. Besides, learning to play will make your building a hell of a lot more fun too. Enjoy.

Thanks Tracy. That box resonator is out of this world!

  • bairfoot cajun

yep tracy the 4 string lap steel has a piece of cherry wood that once was an old bubble or spirit level. as far as the solid body goes it has a piezo under the bridge plate for a pickup. take care man talk wit ya more later.
