Hi Sam, I just wanted to thank you again and let you know I have not forgotten your kindness. The guitar has not shown up yet but I have only been here about 18 days so I suppose it is on its way. I did not want you to think I just got it and forgot to say thanks. You are a real friend to Sailors and every man in uniform

Sam I have a build right now that I am putting a single coil in. I thought last week about adding a piezo to the top, right above the neck. I would just sandwich it between thick tape, then the lid and neck, and wire it to a pot. My question is, should I do that, or are there drawbacks I might be unaware to in this idea?
Hey Wichita Sam! Thanks for the reply! I've had several people respond with potential builds for me but something already put together would be super nice! Please get in touch, my email is ullcajun@hotmail.com Look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Sam, Packed and ready to go. I noticed a HM2 Sabino wants a three string. Would you please send him the one you were going to send me? I'd like to do that. I got too many instruments anyway! Okay with you? Happy New Year! Peace, richard
Hi Sam, Someone jumped in already for the hospitalman, so he's covered. I went to the post office, and I didn't realize that they were closing at noon, and closed tomorrow. I'll get it out Monday. Happy New Year! Richard
Hi Sam.... I posted pics of my latest build on my page. Give em a look and let me know what u think. can use some feedback. tried to incorporate one of your corians but im gonna save that and a jack for the next one....... Dave
Sam,, we talked about so many different things on the different blogs ,, thought i knew u already ... is a pleasure knowing u guys ,, holler at me and keep me in the loop !!
Sam it is so good to see you are quickly recovering and that you are cancer free. I will continue to pray for you. Thanks again for the banjo it plays beautifully. I have it tuned in E and am really enjoying it. The best money I could ever spend. Really really glad you are well

Hello! My name is Kevin M. Kraft, founder of the annual Kansas City Cigar Box Guitar Festival. This year's event will take place on August 26th, and once again I am accepting cigar box guitars and cigar box guitar-related donation, which will be raffled off during the festival, the proceeds to benefit Kansas City's Blues in the Schools program. If you have a guitar, accessory, CD, DVD--anything related to cigar box guitars that you would like to donate, please contact me at the Cigar Box Nation or email me at kevinmkraft@juno.com to learn where to send it.
I understand. Will miss you at the festival, but I hope you and your son have a good time and a great race. And...you're still welcome to donate a guitar or something for the raffle, if you like. ;)
WS, I have a question regarding the 9 +- pairings of saddle/nut elements. The main ones being wood, metal, bone. I was wondering how much varying and pairing you have done, and with what results from these combinations? Thanks.
hey witicha sam thanks for the come back. i play a 4 string fretted c.b.g. i was woundering what strings you use and your tuneing any help would be great keep on picking......
Sam, sorry it took so long to respond. Yes, that info is good, rather along the same line of thought I have too. I also dislike bolts, however, I do have a fine thread small length I was going to try. Have a good day, hope you are not in the huge snow storm path.
Saw your post on Midwest group. The St. Louis Fest will be 06-07-14, at The HWY 61 Roadhouse in Webster Groves, MO. Still working things out hope you can come, expecting a better fest than last year which was incredible.
It's good to hear from you! The instrument you are asking about is called the "Metropolitan Sam" made by Shane Speal, with an eye to One String Sam Wilson's instrument from the 50's-70's. Shane went with a little art deco vibe as well. It has a single pole pickup, I think made by Ted Crocker, a rectangular bottle bridge and is strung with a guitar string (I think 0.054" phosphor bronze). It is really a nice sounding instrument, and I think Shane is still making and selling these, or something very like them.
Hi Sam, send me your mailing address. I want to send you my how to build dvd, you will see how I do the neck, that is where I get my susutian, I don't use pedals.
Thanks for the kind words on my song Sam. I made the cd because I was really happy with the uke I had made. 3 strings and fretless it came together really easy which does not often happen for me. It is really fun to play. Hope you like the rest of the cd...matt
Thanks for the Imfo Sam! I'm definitely going to do that on my next build. Do you think he glued the box bottom to the kneck throug as well? That was such a slim box he used especially with the relief he had to create for that Harrison P/U - there could'nt have been much material left for structural strength? In any event I 'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks again!
Chris
P.S. definitely a slow slide player & I'll stick to Oak or Hickory.
Hi, Sam! LTNS! No, I don't think St. Louis is in the cards. I have a crazy summer of classes for work, and young adult children that still need shuttling around the US for jobs and school. But I am glad to be building again. Working on a fiddle bridge now for an oooooold violin, and refinishing the top of same. Coming off a crazy amount of work, but I have a little lull until the summer madness begins.
Sam, I hope you are still building and possible selling as I was just trying to send someone your way or at least in the direction of the builders I admire. As A side not, I got to play the banjo I got from you in an independent film made by some friends in Boston. It is called sun catcher. You may be able to find it online somewhere like Vimeo. Not sure how it all turned out but I saw a rough cut and the scene I play it in is all there It is used on 2 songs. Hope you can check it out along the line. Thanks again for your kind words. You do a lot to encourage and advise the new here and that is really valuable. You are really the elder stateman here......matt
Aha...........I pushed the right button, I wasn't sure......:<)
It's my pleasure sir, I appreciate the advice. I'm probably going to need much more as time goes by in here. Just waiting on one last order to arrive, pick up a scroll saw and then I should be getting started.
Unless of course that new St. Blues CBG arrives first and I may have a bit of a conflict of what to pay attention to first.
Sam just wanted to tell ya how much I like your song on the new Dylan cd. So out and out COOL! Just an excellent groove and your laid back authentic and o so natural voice. The perfect version if you ask me and one of my favorite trcks on the cd. Really a stand out performance....matt
Hi Sam, Thanks for the response. You can see on my website what folks contact me about. My current pricing is as follows: $260 for the basic guitar (my website details what that is). I charge another $40 for a rosewood or ebony fretboard and another $20 for the sound holes with chrome covers option. Your price is whatever you determine.
I only average about 3 -4 guitars a month. Although I'm sure I could sell more than that but just don't have the time to build them. I realize that all of our guitars are different and that's terrific. I'm not looking for someone that builds clones of my guitars, just someone that I can comfortably refer people to who builds something sort of similar to mine. After all, its the style that I build that prompts folks to get hold of me in the first place. I'd be wasting everybody's time if I refer them to anyone building guitars from a poplar 1x2 glued to a cigar box. Please understand, I'm not implying that's what you build or there's anything wrong with them. But folks inquire about my guitars because they want something other than that.
I've looked at your page here and like many of your guitars. Do you have a website?
