Hi Keni, I wish you lived next door my friend, there is so much I could learn from you... I'm still practicing hard with the 12 bar blues scale, I'll post another update at the end of the week. Thanks again for your support and friendshipnhete at the Nation.
lessons are really good, and like the sound from using finger picks. i am off to a gathering of members of "the brits are coming" group on here tonight in sidcup. gonna take one of my builds and get some more tips. have fun in the studio

Thanks for the post on cross note tuning. I tuned my 6string to Dm and I'm learning how to make that darkness work. Pretty powerful. I also have a new 3-string tuned GBe making an inverted Em. So I wondered what it would sound like doing 12 bars and I was pretty pleased with the sound. For the shuffle I changed between Em and Cmaj. Then barring the 5th and 7th fret with on/off the 8th fret on the middle string. Cool stuff.
Thanks for the comment on my video. When I started, I didn't plan on singing this song. I was practicing finger picking and trying out different notes from the G major scale. I just happened upon Shortenin Bread by accident and went with it. My tuning is GBe so, like I said, it was somewhat accidental that I tried singing along. I could have used some liquid courage. I was stone sober for that video.
I just posted a song on my page using the cross note tuning you explained. My guitar is tuned open Gmin and I play major chords and pull off for the minor note. I like my first cut at this. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Keni, it is posted as a song in my music on my profile page. My tablet was acting funny and the camcorder would not open llast night. So I downloaded a 4 track music recorder and did it hat way. The recorded volume is pretty low so I'm going to play with the levels and reuplaod sometime soon. Thanks for listening.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and J4T Recording app. It allows me to record the git and vocals separately since I still struggle doing both at once. I will rehearse a bit more and do a video. I think it must be the mp3 compression that screws it up the levels are quite good before. It could be the upload to the player here on CBN too I suppose. Trial and error is the name of the game today. So far, two errors.
The advice on strings and action is really helpful. I'm just about to start on my Cohiba solid-body, so it's good to know what I'm aiming for - thanks !
Kenny, You commented on my build from a gourd. Your comment means a lot to me. Especially that it is utilitarian. Thats exactly the way I go about all of the things I build. Love the shakers because of that. The only deffinition of true folk art. Thanks for your kind words. Now if I can only learn how to play. I love your site and music. Thanks again. Wooddini
Hello! My name is Kevin M. Kraft, founder of the annual Kansas City Cigar Box Guitar Festival. This year's event will take place on August 26th, and once again I am accepting cigar box guitars and cigar box guitar-related donation, which will be raffled off during the festival, the proceeds to benefit Kansas City's Blues in the Schools program. If you have a guitar, accessory, CD, DVD--anything related to cigar box guitars that you would like to donate, please contact me at the Cigar Box Nation or email me at kevinmkraft@juno.com to learn where to send it.
Thanks Keni, I have just built my first ever 3 string CBG and now need to learn how to play it! I have dabbled in blues bottleneck on a 6 string over the years but like the simplicity and sound of the 3 stringer!
Hi Keni Lee, thanks for that info on strings and tunings - I'm going to give them a try and see how I go. I'm definitely keen on exploring the ones suited to delta blues
Did you ever see the movie Keni? I remember seeing the movie at our little theatre called the "Home Theatre" on main street here in Blair, Nebraska as a youngster. I wanted nothing more than to live that young mans lifestyle.
Have a look at the Build video that Shane Wagstaff has just posted, thats used one of my box burnings "the Indian"and should give you an idea of how they sound. "hope you like it".
The gut harp strings are louder than nylon for the same diameter and tune up to higher pitches without excessive tension.
A full set of 33 strings for my Lyon & Healy Silhouette with 8 wound metal, 15 gut and 10 nylon is right at $260.00 plus shipping. I don't change them real often.
Hi Keni, first let me say, i have gone through all your Youtube vids, absolutely marvelous.
Now Keni when am i going to be able to buy your DVD's through Amazon here in the UK, or Keni Hows about making them available here on this very site to buy through a download.
Thanks Keni, Hope you also had a nice Thanksgiving. Love your videos especially busking in P'Town. Used to hang out there back in the '60's drinking wine and sleeping on the beach.
Question: I'm trying to play a 3 string fretless. Which of your videos would be best for a real beginner?
apologies I am sure that you get asked this a lot but which dvd is your introduction to playing for beginners? I did visit your ebay page but got confused which i would need.
that little red amp sounds tremendous! its sound better than that little radio I sent you....I remember seeing when those little radio like amps came out.....they are still new not many folks know about them....how much did you pay?
