Hi Mike. I don't know if this is of interest but you might like to read the discussion about neck height in relation to fingering a fretless instrument.
I am no expert. Just on the contrary I am a novice builder, but some of the responses were very helpful for me and maybe would be for you too.
In reality I suspect that it may depend on personal preference. I realised the neck on mine so that the fingerboard is now above the box, whereas it was flush to start with. On the other hand look at the instruments that John McNair makes (Red Dog Guitars) and it's difficult to find fault with either the look of the instruments or the results that he gets when playing them.
Hi Rusty. Here is a fret position calculator from Stewmac: http://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator If you have never fretted a board, I will do cut one in 35 inch scale if you like. Then you trim it to the width you are using, glue it one the instrument, and install the frets. trimming and finishing the ends, and leveling the frets. The fret calculator is great, and makes the job easy and accurate.
Thanks for the friend request. I was just out in the Rochester area this weekend visiting the in-laws in Honeyoye Falls. Also, made my last ever visit to HOG. . .I'll stick with my local shop, Saratoga Guitar.
I always try to buy a little something from any independent business I visit. I dug 3 used tuning machines from the loose hardware box and the guy charged me $12. It'll cost him sale of an amp and guitar from me. I was trying to talk myself into a resonator and tube amp for the CBGs.
The kind of tuners I used are made for a standard 10mm hole. If you don't have a 10mm drill bit you can drill it out at the next lowest size that you do have and then carefully widen the hole using a file or end pin reamer.
Thank you Rusty for your comment. The melody line of this song and how the lyrics are phrased is very common. There are four songs that I know of that use the same melody. This song, You Got to Move (most are familiar with Fred McDowell's version that the Stones covered), Sitting On Top of the World (The Mississippi Sheiks), and Robert Johnson's Come On In My Kitchen. The idea of creating new songs with popular melodies is very common in the folk music world. Enjoy.
hi mike, if your using the stewmac fret calc (which is the one i always use), ALWAYS always measure from nut to fret - just use the fret to fret measurement to check for accuracy.
High there Mike, get onboard great t shirt Norton! any jimmy fan is a pall!
Greeetssszzz A.D. Ps crazy to see that all ower Heroes are dead iwas under the inpresion that burnside was still alive, a shame! well his son's continu but not like the old RL !
Hi Mike ! Sorry for the delay, was on the dutch isles whit the kids for some ray's and sea, it depends on how many strings, but yes the most builders that use standard Cigar boxes use some sort of support
You can adapt this for any given box, when you go above tree strings it is advised to do so, and even whit tree it gives more longlive for the CBG! greeeeettsszzz A.D.

As they keep saying, no rules. Have fun.
