hey Jp, thank you for your kind words! That's what it's about - getting inspired and sharing ideas with fine bunch of people :-) Like your twisted box layout, fine work man
From what you have explained your doing the right thing - is the solder your using Fluxed ? some solders require flux - just trying to think out loud what could be stopping the solder joining the wires - dose the solder stick to the wires your trying to join to the Pickup ?
the only thing i do different to your method is i use brass eyelets to solder my wires into but i have tried your method before and it worked just fine - the only other thing i can think of is your not cleaning all the enamel coating off the thin winding wire - i also use finishing Paper 320 grit to clean the enamel off the winding wire so everything your doing is right
i'd look towards the solder or cleaning the wires a bit more
From what you have said i cant see why the solder wont stick - is the solder your using Fluxed ? some solders need Flux - are you able to solder the ends of the thicker wires with the solder you are using ?
things to check
all the enamel coat is removed from the ends of the winding wire
use either a fluxed solder or a solder and Flux
i also use 320 grit to remove the enamel from the winding wire but i use brass eyelets to solder my wires into - but i have tried the method you speak of in the past and i had no problems - fender have done it that way for years so it's a tried and tested method
well thats about all i can think of right now hope that helps
J.P., I'm glad to have you for a nation friend. I looked through your photos and remember being impressed with the construction, especially on that tuna can reso.
Thanks for the welcome, as for the bridge its actually a dram handle with 2 peizos sitting right underneath. I can control the height of the bridge as well through the screws.
I think i relied too much on that belt sander, says a lot about my skill working with wood.
The sound is too metallic kind of( really nice acoustically though) , i think the pick up placement wasnt the best ill go in and put something between them the the bridge. I think ill boost the sound quality by building a 3rd of 4th degree low pass filter and pre amp.
Pickups are in parallel, the volume pot is really easy. I guess the electronics side comes more naturally to me, build quality and craftsmanship is were i lack.
Thanks for having a look, when my girlfriend gets back from vacation ill post a video of her playing.
Thanks for looking at my photos, J.P. You have a lot of original creativity in your builds. Some nice necks and sound holes. I like the can reso. Some cool old boxes.
J.P., thanks on the sound comparison. You must be a night owl. How's the sound holes in the box thing going? On my reso build, I kept the top off the necke except for 2 small points and did some horizontal drilling.
howdy jp,the pic of me and keb is where i did give him one of my cbg,s---its in the bag,the bag is an old gunney sack and the cbg in it is the edge underdog. he seemed like he liked it ok yep.he plays some good slide so i just wanted him to experience some tone from a cbg of his own.
Hi JP thanks for the welcome, feels good with some swedish blood in the Nation. :-)
Impressive collection you've got, I think I might squeeze out a few CBGs too soon, got some supplies from CBGitty today, itching to get started. I know my wife will have a few things to say... ;-)
I told you about my Mississippi license plate build idea. I bid on some old Miss. plates and they went too high. Going to try making my own box and doing the Hiway 61 on it. Also starting a long scale mandolin and just had great success improving a prior build. Will post a photo.
Thanks for your Milk Cow blues comments. How is your playing going? What tunings and what kind of songs?
JP -- Man, your instruments are truly awesome! Look like they're 200 years old... Someday I'll figger out how to do that. Hey, thanks for the friend request and comment about my tunes. Good to know ya'!
JP, I posted photos of the little blue owl rebuild. It is a thrilling good player. I got further on 61 than anticipated. Hope to be playing it in the next day or two..
The square joke is less funny when you see the off center, crooked neck git in my shop. Sucker plays great, though. Thanks for your comments. I did write that simple blues.
JP, Rod is still in may prayers. Got an idea this morning. Really! I do want to go back to KC next year and I hope, get a motel room next to you and Rod. Do you want to get up and play a song or more? You may be ready by then - Bad To The Bone would be good. Or you can play washboards for me or pick a song I do and sing while I play-- what ever works. Going to make Toby the same offer.

“You have to be the king of "F holes"!” Can I actually claim that title? ; )
Thanks for all of the wonderful comments! No luthier school on my resume.
The f-holes are drawn, traced with a knife, cut out with a rotary tool, and finished with files.
