One suggestion would be to explore theory. This is a great book:
    http://www.edly.com/mtfpp.html
Another would be to explore a different style of guitar and then see how it may influence your current style. Learn a Hawaiian, classical, jazz, punk, etc. standard. How about playing in a totally different tuning like DADgad. I mostly listen to old records I never heard before and get inspired. I know your pain. Basically after a while it is one big song. The same, but different. But I like coffee for breakfast everyday anyway. LOL Enjoy.

thanks for posting your vid as a video response on mine...great vid : -)

howdy man, just popped in ta answer a few questions if i can. about the mr charutos resonator, when i did the vid i had just got it strung up,so i havent added frets yet but i used a martin reject fretboard that is slotted and ready to put frets in it, so i will put frets in it. another thing i,m a gonna do is add a piezo right under the bridge and maybe even add a mag pup to it when i get some in. i have some being custom made for me by my nephew in louisiana. today i got a cool box in the mail and i,m thinking of doing another resonator similar to the mr charutos but with a 3 string configuration but with a different layout on the hole pattern on the top of the box but also with the other half of that toaster i cut up for the resonator plate. ohhhhhhh i forgot to tell ya i used a side wall from a toaster that was chrome plated for the resonator plate in the mr charutos cigar box. it also has an adjustable neck with a set screw to lower or raise the action of the strings. talk wit ya more later sir, take care.

Hi there - thanks for your coment on my latest. That guitar was a solid body thing I made from an old tulipwood chopping board with a mandolin coil pickup - I hardly ever play it and I'm beginning to wonder why!
  • MrRandomWritings (Backwater Bri)

I can see why you asked but no - it's a print of a painting by Adolph Gottlieb
  • Keni Lee Burgess

Thanks Roy. It always amazes me too how mechanical finger movement gets turned into sound. Truly magical stuff even in a time of high technology. I guess we are not going to be surpassed by machines anytime soon. LOL BTW: Ya, Nothing better than friends, pizza, beer, and an evening of "making" music. Enjoy.

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • Gina Goulding

Thanks for the invite...love what you and all the other musicians are doing here!
  • Gadsden Guitars

I know, my previous six stringer was for a blues musician and I had a video of him playing it at a small show, but, I didn't feel he was at his best and I didn't want to put the video out. As for my latest build, which is my own personal guitar, sounds great, it's just that I really suck at playing. Maybe I'll just do what I can on it and leave it to y'alls imagination as to what a REAL guitar player could do with it. My nephew had promised me a video of a build I did for him, a three stringer VSG box, but he's been pretty busy lately. Soon man, soon.
  • Gadsden Guitars

If you'll notice I had to put the neck at quite an angle to get the strings to clear the top of the chicken feeder reso cover. That might explain the height difference. The action, I think, is perfect for slide as well as for being able to play regular. But all in all, it's pretty comfortable to play, just gotta get to learnin'. Put it this way, I played drums for about fifteen years and only played in front of someone maybe 5 times, pretty shy I suppose.
  • Gadsden Guitars

I actually drew it out full scale, side view. This helped to not only get the rake, but also to determine the height of biscuit. So essentially the height of the biscuit is relative to the rake which is determined by calcumalatin' clearance over the cover of the cone.
    I pretty much wung it.....
  • bairfoot cajun

Cool I see a UKE lurking in your pics! ....Glad you figured out the MP3....the recorder I wanted to ask about I did remember to and it is called Zoomo...what model I don't know,..but the quality of the player itself surpasses the edirol....either one can make studio quality recordings...I think you can spend less and get something good enuF...or many folks using soft ware and mics plugged straight into the computer....mixing with software. Did you mean the song Little Red Canoe or Vid? I have a Mp4 version, but cannot upload it here and am not sure myself how to convert the file to mp3....I added two songs off my CD here--the only two Cig Box offerings off the cd, after finding mp4 not possible to add..recorded off my computer speakers, using the edirol...recording at mp3 level. The cd is fun, but I'm out of copies at the moment....lately gas in the tank is better than cd's in the closet that might not sell.....LOL,....i'll try to make a copy off the cd and upload here to my music player and allow sharing, they can be used and added that way.....thanks for asking, too:-) I've given away as many copies as I've sold, I think!!hehehe
  • Laurie Lee Campbell

Hi bestillRoy, and thanks--I recorded the cd out5 of pocket in a local studio, and they produce the CD's for me when I need them...the cost to order a bit high for me as the artist, but the beauty is that I can order 10 copy a time if I like.I did it mostly to say I "did it".i can order some and let you know when they arrive..it usually takes about a half a week..I've been selling at 10 a pop, would ship for free if you want more than one copy--I think ship cost is 2 bucks, first class, three can be sent priority in one box...I'm only lacking time to get back to this engineer,,,a really super guy, (look up Laughing Dogs Jimmi Accardi ),,he was so taken with the CBG that he wants to make an EP or CD and front the cost--and add the rhythm --stomp, light snare...etc, sort of a shared fun project. Hard to leave home....got a pa, almost 89! two kids in highschool=busy days!, and don't forget the mowing!LOL............uploading a vid shortly--look for it, contains a hint for a download....I'll let you know when I've got some in hand--cash, postal money order by mail, and paypal by lightning speed works for me...

its has been a while since i made one of those jean gig bags and i know i still have the stuff to make 5 or 6 of them and i still have my industrial sewing machine, but the machine is in my brothers upholstery shop and its kinda small and he is doing a custom truck seat right now and my sewing machine is covered up so doing it is not a problem.finding the time and staying out of the way is the problem. so i guess i shoulda said yep i can do it i just don't know when i can do it.
  • Joker

Hey man. The podcast is in limbo land right now. It was shut down by mypodcast.com (the hosting site) because they said I didn't have enough traffic on it. So starting in October it wil be relocated that Shane owns. Probably at cigarboxguitar.com, but I don't know for sure yet. I am sure I can get a front page announcment on the nation when it's ready.
  • Joker

meant to say "relocated to a website that Shane owns"
  • bairfoot cajun

  • ProfWaldo

Hey, some very impressive woodworking and blacksmithing skills shown in your pics Roy.The iron work is incredibly artistic and well done, wow ! Ah yes, isn't the life of a tinker grand !?! Thanks for the nice comment on the song I did with Laurie. I hope to do one myself in the not too distant future but the singin' ain't gonna be anywhere near as purty, might even be painful. Well, I guess that's why god made volume controls. I gotta' go check out more of your stuff here. Later...
  • Dianne Woods

Hey, Thank you for the tip. Very good idea to make one from a brass door plate. Thank you very much.
  • Keni Lee Burgess

LOL I did not notice that until you mentioned it, beStillroy. Maybe it fell out of Colonel Sanders bucket! Enjoy.
  • Dianne Woods

Fitzgerald is bout 30 miles east of Tifton which is S Ga. Fitzgerald is north of Valdosta. We are 3 hr drive south of Atlanta. It is a small town.
  • Bluesheart

Well, with wire I just wrap it back around itself , like picture wire. With the fishing line, I just do a series of half hitches and pull it tight into one big knot, then slip the other end thru a small hole, like on Zen-O Phone.
  • Dianne Woods

What is your clock cbg made of? I really like it, very unique.
  • Dianne Woods
