I just have to say, this site is so damn much fun. There's always something interesting going on, in addition to the river of information inside. It's impossible to look at CBN for just a few…Continue

I began my Thanksgiving celebration this morning by purchasing a Canjo Diddley Bow. As I always do, I scanned the listings -- and there they were: beautiful Red Dogs, Back Porch Mojo's and.......a guy wearing a pig's head holding a "cigar box guitar" bedpan. This marketing approach is lost on me, in fact it works just the opposite: I would never buy anything from a man wearing a pig's head. It's weird. It's creepy. I'm just not that into pigs. It's interesting in a behavorial sort of way, but I'm more curious about the photographer -- is it his wife, partner, child, best friend or mother? Did no one think to say, "Dude, don't wear the pig's head this time. It's bad enough you're selling a bedpan."

The bedpan guitar is advertised as "sanitized." Whew! I really wanted it before that had happened.

I agree with you, Sam. I don't get it either, but I like the wording.

I'm with you on the Clapton stuff. I saw him fairly recently in DC and was not impressed with his performance. As noted here, he seemed very disconnected from what he was doing. I still like a good bit of his music, but his performance was not worth the money (I could have bought a decent guitar for the price of admission). I did, however, shoot some really good photos of the event (had a press pass) and was happy with that part of it.

I'm also struggling with the pricing on some of the cbg's that I am seeing as well as the ones I am building. I don't have pics up yet, but all I can say is that my builds are turning out to be pretty solid. I'm a bit of a perfectionist about my guitars (have a large collection) and am really particular about how my own cbgs look and sound. They are works of art to me, and they ought to sound really good if I am going to charge people to buy them. I also believe that one of the most impressive aspects of this movement is the concept that these instruments should be affordable so I am really struggling to make good, solid and attractive builds that I won't lose money on. I had a ton of fun at a yard sale today finding parts on the cheap, and finding all sorts of things that one could convert to an instrument. I never went to yard sales much before now.... but I am getting hooked! Hopefully I will get pics of some work up soon, and some of the odd parts that I am finding to build with. Great discussion!

Susan nailed it - On the subject of Clapton, in my opinion, he was good many years ago, but there are so many talented players who are better, or at least as good. I never get the feeling that he's connected with what he's playing, and there's no heart involved.'>>

Sadly some kind of body-snatcher took over about the time he stepped out of the "Layla" recording session in 1970.
