I just have to say, this site is so damn much fun. There's always something interesting going on, in addition to the river of information inside. It's impossible to look at CBN for just a few…Continue

@ Sam,

The only person crying seems to be you.

"No one respects me! Waaaaaa!"

"I was #74, so people should start bowing and scraping when I come into the room, but  they don't! Waaaaaaa!"

When C.B. was censoring posts, I gave you a friendship request because I wanted to let you know your posts were being altered and I wasn't sure if it was you or C.B. (You can disregard that by the way) because I thought you should know whats going on.

Later you responded to one of my discussions. You know what? I actually thought it was kind of cool when you hit one of my discussions and offered some useful advice there without being a complete jerk. I even responded and thanked you for your post.

But then I found this conversation and discovered that you had just decided to cry about our disagreement here. If you and I have conflicting personalities, that's fine. I don't have to like someone to respect their knowledge or experience. You think I sound like a know-it-all? Fine. I think you sound like a petulant child.

Maybe if you manned up a little, new people like me might have more respect.

Hal,

Just aches and pains talking.... I really like 99% of my time here.  And, I really like helping newer builders.  I just get pained when I come from work where people have real problems (a level 1 emergency room), I run into people who know absolutely nothing about CBGs, want to tell eveyone how it ought to be done... and when you suggest that maybe all opinions aren't equal, you get slapped down.

I need places that give me relief for the stress of working with people who are really suffering, not adding frustration by those who don't get that it's a box, a stick and some strings....

I'm not totally gone... just fading....  nice vid... thanks,

the best,

Sam

Colin,

thank you too!!!!!   maybe the management will do something nice for the "founders club" members..

Sam -

I hope you will reconsider.  One a-hole is not enough reason to leave.  I've only been here about a year and a half, so I'm neither an original nor a newbie, but I wouldn't be where I am in this hobby if it weren't specifically for you and people like you.

I've belonged to a lot of foums (sports cars, hot rods, knitting, motorcycles) that I have left because of the constant pissing matches and flame wars.  This place was different.  Or was up to now.  Growing pains, I guess.

You and I even had a little tiff but it was kept here in the rant forum where it belonged, and we kissed and made up.

Even though I've never met anyone on this forum in person, I consider each person I've taken or given advice and encouragement from/to a friend.

So it seems I was about the 35th member. But I get ideas and inspiration from you guys who have the experience to give it. I admittedly do not have the time or money to spend on hobbies the way I would like. Getting advice from someone else can point me where I need to go for what I want, without all the time and money spent is awesome. Thank you Sir.

by the way I was the 74th member.... so, to the 8,600 members who followed me... "You're welcome!"

If you look at the first 100, founding members out of 8674 members, most were formed in the "Revolution" where you could get help from others, but by in large, you learned by building.

the current crop of "newbies" seem to what EVERTHING handed to them on a plater.  There seems to be very little effort/struggle or thought is most of the questions being asked and much more whaaaaaaa when they get challenged.

Finally, we seem to be on a forum where all opinions are deems equal.   Probably little surprise that the people who know the most and have contributed the most to the CBG movement are less and less interested in hanging out here.

Or, I'm just getting to old to have rug rats under food....

a good bye wave,

Wichita Sam

Have CBG's gone mainstream?

Any other dinosaurs out there remember what it was like at the old Yahoo forum?

The site was old school low tech and shitty.

There was a handful of characters posting and you knew them all.

We were edgy and off beat and the whole atmosphere was just a tiny bit scary.

You never knew what kind of post was going to pop up, but it was center stage for awhile and it was not to be ignored.  There were soul-stirring diatribes about the future of the cbg "movement".

Yeah, we were about the music, an indefinable mutation of blues and punk and appalachia and a dozen other things.  But mostly we were about the sheer rebellion of sticking it to the Guitar Centers of the world by making our own shit,   People were passionate about it.  Sometimes inappropriately so.  People ranted and spouted off.    Feelings were hurt  People got pissed off.  Folks were banned for awhile . . . repented and came back.  It was all heady. stuff.  We weren't model airplane builder type hobbyists . . . we were definitely something "different".

I suppose none of this makes sense if you werent there.  But something has been lost.

We dreamed about a day cbgs would be featured in Guitar Player magazine.  Then we figured we would have won . . . . but now, I dont know if  we really did.

God, I miss those days.

You want a rant?  YOU WANT A RANT GIRLY MAN!

And now I can propose (what I imagine to be) a plausible explanation for at least part of this whole crazy underwear-bomb-foiled-by-CIA story. This guy identified as the "master bomb maker," is actually an agent for New Babylon. People inclined to learn bomb making as a way to express their hatred of New Babylon will go to him, and he'll ID them. Those who have any serious aptititude and cannot be reliably manipulated will be eliminated. Others will become unwitting dupes. Expect more drone attacks on mud huts wiping out entire families and villages as we create, then keep kicking hornets nests, in those places we know (thanks to our amazing technology) have significant untapped oil reserves. I do wonder if the Saudis are not quite sick of this game we're playing - and they're paying for - and are not trying to screw it up from time to time (as possibly in this case). (Obviously, if the master bomb maker had been a real threat, he woulda been killed, and maybe the Saudis were hoping we'd have to take him out.) Instead, he survives, possibly with greater street cred.

Of course, one upshot of the whole affair is to generate conversations about it (e.g. this one) and gather more info, including how effective is the whole op - including its disinfo cover - in the first place?

One cynical comment on the whole affair caught my attention: it was suggested that soon, folks who want to fly will have to wear TSA approved outfits. Resembling prison uniforms perhaps? Again, how hard is it for a pilot (and his crew?) to put everyone aboard a passenger jet asleep?
