Hi Wes (&Wes), we're working the CBG angle pretty hard right now, and might persuade Shakori to make space for us next Spring.  And yes, I have a friend on the board.  If not Shakori Grassroots, then Wild Goose which is at the same place on Mem Day weekend.  Wild Goose is projecting around 4K attendance this year.  So, not Shakori Grassroots size, but nothing to sneeze at.

Justin is helping a lot, too.  He's talked a Hillsborough club into having a CBG workshop this summer (will let you know details when I have them, would be great if you could make it up) and he's writing an article for a local community paper on CBGs and will include interviews w/Marty and me.

We're also bouncing around the idea of a small private CBG festival of our own.  I know two nearby locations with infrastructure in place - stages, electricity, trails, RV parking, campsites, etc...  We just need to create enough interest to make it do-able.  Both places can handle probably 1500 people, but we'd only need a tenth of that to make a great weekend.

Wes Carl, How ya doing? I met with Bob (Madurobob) at the Shakori Hills Grassroots Fest and along with a few others, we were contemplating having an official/unofficial gathering there next year. Bob is hooked into some of the coordinators (?) of the event and he and Justin Johnson might be able to swing getting us some space or time there. NOTHING CONFIRMED but that would be a REALLY great venue without having to go a'hunting.

Anyhow, I guess we will see what we can do.

As for me, I'm gonna have to skip the PA CBG Fest this year :-( My oldest is turning 16 on that Saturday and it being a big event and all, I gotta be here. Have fun.

Wes, he's a *very* talented guitarist, but is pretty new to 3 and 4 string guitars.  He received one as payment for a gig a month or two ago and has been educating himself since.  He called me today about various tunings that he could run through at the workshop.

So, my guess is a wholehearted "yes" that he'd be open to some help on running the workshop.  If you're open to it, PM me your contact info and I'll shoot you both an e-mail as means of introduction.

My offer still stands, too, if you're interested in putting a guitar or few up for sale in my booth.  I'm happy for this to be a community affair.

Spring Shakori is April 19-22.  Not sure yet what day is the CBG workshop, but my guess is Sunday - thats when most of the workshops are.

Ok, not bad. For those who dont know where that is, its between Siler City and Pittsboro north of 64. Look for Henderson Tanyard rd west of 87.

So when and lets get some activity there. Im game

Well, you know... Shakori Hills is pretty darned close to the geographic center of the state...

And I just found out today a friend of mine has been asked by the organizers to hold a "Cigar Box Guitar" workshop there - focusing on the playing and tuning aspects.  With some luck we may turn Shakori Hills into a hub of CBG activity in the region.

Lots of big names in roots music pass through Shakori.  This year will see Jim Avett of the Avett brothers, Mandolin Orange, Red clay Ramblers, and 50+ other acts.  Merlfest is the following weekend, so often folks just stop by on their way.  Last year I met John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame playing a mandolin backing up one of the acts.

you know, we do plot and plan (mostly plot) to have an NC CBG gathering, but somehow it seems to fall to the wayside. I know, times being tough and travel is hard, but we really ought to try to at least meet up somewhere's and bring CBGs to show and play. Roughly the geographic center of NC is the Triad region (for those who don't know, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point). I know I can get there in about three hours.

Anyone in the area who knows of a good spot and can secure it, please let us know.
