This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hi folks - I'm Nigel and I live of the tropical island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. I have a guitar collection that is beyond anything I ever dreamed I would own but now I want to get back to basics so I have started building my own CBG. Well, actually a JBG (a Jewellery Box Guitar as we don't get Cigar boxes here). So I'm sitting in my house surrounded by sugar cane fields and working out how best to do it considering I am useless at carpentry and know nothing about electronics. But I do know how to play and I know what I like. So my first attempt is being made up from an old jewellry box with the neck made from a piece of leftover wood from when they built the verandah on the house (very hard wood). I want to stick to the basics so am using only recycled products which I find lying around or scrounge from people. I'll let you know how things go whether I succeed or not. Cheers and best wishes to all.

Just curious about playing around and making a noise maker of sorts. Maybe repurposing an old cast-off electric into one of these thang-a-ma-jigs. I was really inspired by seeing some of the beautiful Daddy Mojos in person and also by seeing Jack White make a Diddy Bow in about one minute in the movie "It Might Get Loud". Looking forward to it!

Hey all. I'm a 35yo bass-playing geek. I've been meaning to get around to building a cbg for some time. I have all the parts lying around it's just a matter of finding the time.

Hello all. This is a nice site and I'm very glad to be here. I am a 43 Y.O. experimental musician and instrument builder. Along with a traditional solid body
electric lap steel build, I am also fabricating a cigar box lap steel with a paint can lid "resonator". I love the desperate yet full sound of these wonderful instruments. It is my fondest hope that one day I can contribute as much knowledge here as I have already absorbed from you all. Thanks for getting me started!

Hi, My name is Penny and like Gary I saw and heard Paul Thorley and was blown away by both the sound and the concept. I bought a cheapy CBG on ebay from the US and am slowly learning to play. The hope is that when I'm old n grey I can sit on the back porch and thump out a few tunes.

Aloha! I was hipped to this forum via Boing Boing. I am a graphic designer/ artist working in a silk screen shop in Lihue, Kauai. I been plucking on guitars, beating on drums, strumming ukuleles and making noise for sometime. I have recently rededicated myself to learning some music theory. I like to make stuff from found objects and find the CGB a perfect combination of some or my interests. Looking forward to seeing, learning and hearing more about this unique instrument.

Howdy ya'll. My name is Billy England and I reside in VA Beach, Va. I heard about CBGs on-line and decided to make one on my own. I'm a professional musican (by night) and sling guitar and other instruments for a few regional bands in my area. Currently, I am playing with The Muckrakes (which is an Alt-Americana band) and well as The Bottle Babies (Garage-punk n' roll). By day, I am a System / Network Analyst / Administrator.

After I made my first and only CBG, I posted a blog about it and then someone from this forum / website read my blog and said that I should check this webstie out, so now I'm here to learn even more.

I'm very interested in CBGs and eager to learn.

Hello Everyone.
My name is Don Mason from South Louisiana. I seen and heard my first CBG at a local craft show and was blown away by the sound. I now have purchase my own and plan on try to start building one soon. So far the people that have played it and seen it were very impressed. NO ONE had ever seen one or knew that they existed. I will let you all know if I get thing rolling in south Louisiana.

Hi all,
My name is Carl and I'm from Belgium, a tiny country between France and Holland. I've been playing acoustic blues guitar for more than 35 years now and I'm still not bored with it (check out my YouTube channel 'daddystovepipe')
I came in touch with cbg's through Keni Lee's video's on YouTube. Just love the less-is-more and "mojo" about this instrument so I'm glad to have found this site.
I posted a video here and hope to post more soon.
