Ok, entry #2. Top neck is oak with scarfed headstock, 2 string fretless, tuned D / G. Bottom neck is a fretless dowel necked diddly bow, hose clip nut and a .52 guage E string, dropped to a D. Fully electified by way of a piezo wired straight to jack. Oh... and its half size! Scale length is 16" :o)

Cool. Just wanted to make sure all the bases were covered. Maybe later we can have a contest with boxes that are/were NOT cigar boxes. And maybe acoustic only instruments, like the old days. I have some cool ammo boxes I'd like to use. I have made a double neck, but it was a box that is home made,as I couldn't find a CB that was big enough for good acoustic tone. Rich in Tennessee...

I hope that all boxes can be included so as to add creative resources. Medicine boxes, orange crates, ammo boxes, etc., all could be fair game.

The rules say cigar box. Does that include home made boxes with cigar labels, or boxes that held cigars, or any box that looks like a cigar box? ?

Heres my effort. Finished September 2009, built by me, Roosterman, in me shed :o) 1 string diddly bow and 4 string fretless guitar. The top neck is a simple dowel, though it is blocked up inside for strength where routered out for the pickup. Single bass tuner and hose clip nut are up the business end, and it uses an 'A' bass string for some proper 'thump'. The guitar neck is oak, and has a scrafed headstock, a nail for a nut, and is heeled, again for extra strength. Both scales are identical for easy playing, and again the frets are marked along the top edge. Tuned to open E. Both necks are finished in an antique pine wax, and buffed to a shiny shine :o) The pickups are a matched pair of scatterwound tone monsters from Juju, which are just about the warmest pups I have ever heard, regardless of how much you have to spend! The single pole measures a healthy 3k, the 4 pole 5.5k. The 3 way switch selects, one or the other neck, or both if you posess the required talent... Chrome control pots are located on the top edge, volume and tone (with Sprague orange drop cap). I guess the main features though have to be the bridge and the neck angles. The bridge is actually a modified tremelo bar off a strat, which gives the perfect angle for the diverging necks. It is earthed through one of the supports, which I salvaged off an old bed and machined down to suit. The neck angle was designed to give a little more hand space, but also to allow quicker changes from one neck to the other. And to look cool :o) As a project, it was a steep learning curve, with a lot to fit in a little box, but Im really pleased with the way it turned out.... might even have time to try and do another before the deadline :o)
