building 2 electric cbgs and using the delta 4 pole pickup with vol and tone control
The pick ups came with 2 mounting screws and 2 springs. What are the springs for???
and when the pickup is mounted using the middle mounting holes the screws supplied touch 2 up the magnates at the same time. Is this right??

I didn't think classic P90's had the mounting screws touching the pole pieces... but I just looked at pics of some, and they are really close, if not touching! So, I guess it's not really that bad a design!
Saw the same thing.
My pickup is mounted without the springs right now so I going to do a little surgery on back side of lid and remove more material to get the adjustment space needed.
As Jim D says, it will work, but, unless the screws are touching all of the magnets, or none, you might get an inbalance on how the strings affect the pup, the screws are effectively working as pole extensions if they are touching the magnets, and nothing wrong with that, as long as they are all affected reasonably equally
Thanks for all the help . Learning a lot on this build and looking forward to getting better
Got some homework to do on pups and their placement
first electrics
Do they make any of those pups that are RWRP? I know the P90's that CBGitty sells are just one direction/one polarity, but don't know if any of the Delta 3 or 4 poles are available in RWRP(Reverse Wind/Reverse Polarity).
A 2 single coil pickup guitar usually has a bridge pickup that's wound clockwise and North polarity, the neck will be wound counter-clockwise and south polarity so that the guitar will be humbucking in parallel when both pickups are switched on. This is what's going on in a double coil Humbucking pickup but wired in series. Older guitars weren't like that and people would switch the wires around(if possible) and flip the magnet on the neck pickup because the pickups would have a thin out of phase sound when both were switched on.
The Fender Telecaster had both pickups wound the same way and the magnets were the same polarity til the early 60's. Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin converted his 50's Tele neck pickup and had the 2 play in series on the first 3 albums till he got his Gibson Les Paul.
Yeah it works like a Strat with single coil pickups just using the bridge and middle pups. Just a side note- the first 4 years of Strats middle pup was just like the other pups and not RWRP with a 3-way switch. They changed them in 57 or 58 to middle being RWRP with a 5-way switch. If I'm not mistaken, the first P90 model Gibsons didn't have a RWRP neck pickup.
Some people liked that thin out of phase tone. Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac turned his humbucking neck pickup 180 degrees in the pickup cavity so the pickups would have that thin tone when both pups were selected.
Okay, enough history lessons. Hahaha
