Hi guys,
As Im sure you all know, we have been quietly working away on next years main event for some time now. Hell we had to start early - how do you top Ben Prestage?!
There will be some slight changes this year, though we will be keeping true to our roots.
First big change is a new city and a new venue. In an attempt to reach a wider audience and to attract some of our fellow CBGers from 'oop norf', we are taking the show straight up the M6. To Manchester!
Im sure you all know that Mad-chester has a vibrant music scene, good road and rail links and, some great venues. Like 'Band On The Wall'. For those who dont know, Band on the Wall is a historic live music venue, so named as the bands used to play on a platform suspended half way up the wall!
Now fully refurb'd to a high standard, and run as a charitable organisation, they are very in tune with what we do. Check out their website for more info http://bandonthewall.org/
The date for your diary is Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September 2012
Again we will be running a 2 day event, with an open mic and free gig on the friday, the usual Saturday daytime tomfoolery, and then the main gig on the Sat evening.
And what a gig this will be! We already have three superb international artists confirmed, but we have one more trick up our sleeve. As soon as we know more we will post the details here!
I promise you this though.... Its going to be a blinder!
*STOP PRESS* The Friday night open mic and free Hollowbelly gig will be at;
The Salutation, 2 Higher Chatham Street, Manchester. M15 6ED
More details in the discussion....

shit, John and you have been listening to my ideas! - "the only way the dancing strippers at boxstock 2011 could get any better would be to get them playing banjos". I knew you'd come round to my way of thinking. You can ditch the birds playing ukes though...
Woohoo, looks like I might be able to get to this one :)
More great news people...
The legendary HOLLOWBELLY will be playing a special up close and personal gig on the Friday night, right after the open mic. Hell yeah! He'll also be offering to teach you how to 'Play the Hollowbelly way' on Saturday, so make sure you pack your Converse and a baseball cap :o)
Wow, I'm on my way...
Mike Snowden, Blackriver Bluesman and Bad Mood Hudson, Dave Arcari AND Hollowbelly. How are you gonna beat this next year?
Bugger. Never thought of that. Best start planning the 2013 event right away.....
FRIDAY VENUE:
I am pleased to confirm that the Friday night open mic and free Hollowbelly gig will be held at;
The Salutation, 2 Higher Chatham Street, Manchester. M15 6ED.
The 'Sally' is a traditional Victorian drinking hole located on the corner right by Manchester Met Uni, featuring red leather seating, wood, brass and real ale. They will also be doing our tea for those who want to eat... what more could you ask for?!
They have a regular folk / punk / alternative open mic session, so have an in-house PA and a supportive crowd - how ready they are for Hollowbelly remains to be seen, but its cosy in there, so expect it to get busy!
Last week I ventured out on a fact finding mission to Manchester on behalf of HGMC. First stop was The Salutation...and I believe we will rock the joint....it's a cosy little corner of the street boozer right next to the Manchester Met. Uni. campus..and my prediction is that it will be an absolutely packed-house, rip-roaring evening.
A brisk 1/2 hour walk thru' Manchester city centre brought me to The Band on The Wall...and I reckon the Roosterman has found us the perfect venue for the Saturday. It's got a great main performance area with a full stage, superb house PA and a mezzanine gallery, a separate bar area where we can run other daytime activities, plus two conference/meeting rooms for players' workshops and small presentations. Just a few yards away..literally 2 minutes walk is the Holiday Inn Express, Travel Lodge and Crowne Plaza are also nearby
mmm, i just googled the pub, hope it's big enough, just round the corner from the music college- friday night...? students etc
..just have to get there early o guess...lol
looking forward to this ..
Yup, thats the plan! A packed bar, a great gig, a load of music students - that all bodes well in my book :o)
They reckon the Sally holds around 200, half of which will be us lot, so it should be a scream.
I might bring my banjo....
Indeed - the pic is actually of the Picturehouse, the cafe bar next door operated by BotW. BotW itself holds approx 350 - Id like to see it full, so bring your mates!
