Hi all. Thought it would be nice to check in here if you're British. I know there's quite afew CBGers in the UK now because I've had quite a few emails from my blog. Time to come out of the woodwork and introduce yourself. How long have you been into CBGs? What got you started? What part of the UK do you live in? Do you know of any UK CBG events?

I'll kick it off. I'm David Ward (aka smojo) and live in West Yorkshire. Got into CBGs when I saw one on Ebay and bought it about 3 years ago. Started building and playing them. I have a blog going at

http://smojo-cigar-box-guitars.blogspot.com/ (sorry the hyperlink function doesn't seem to work)

Don't know of any events here yet but it would be cool if we could get one going sometime.

Hi, my name is Mark and I live in a small hamlet in the Welsh marches.
I got into CBGs because I was fascinated by the sound of what I heard on YouTube and because I love building things. Despite twenty five years of practice I remain a clumsy player, so I have no plans to perform or join a band and I play mostly for my own amusement and for a sort of meditation.

I've got a website where I post pics and info about the instruments I build:

Hello!

I'm Sally (36)... I live in Birmingham. I play the uke and have enviously watched friends bring in their own cigar-box creations. I am at the exciting stage of having purchased a cigar box (e-bay) and a mahogany fretboard for a first project... Watch this space!!! ;-)
Hi Sally,
I am also a ukulele player and have built a couple of cigar box ukuleles for fun.
Thought I'd say hello and welcome you to this site and forum. Good luck with your build.

Hi, I'm John, I live in Northampton and am halfway through building something. I couldn't source a box and was imaptient so cut some wood up without really thinking about sizes. lol. Still, it will play and it's certainly taught me a thing or two.

I seem to have the bug so will be trying hard to find someone who sells boxes so I can make another 1 or 2 or 3 or...

Why? I had the idea of making a Diddley Bo, so made one, stuck a can on it for a resonator and then whilst looking at related stuff on the internet came accross the cbg. Well, it just had to be done :-)

What an awsome site this is.

oh, I'm 41 and work in education.
Welcome Sally, John, Mark and Yellowbelly. Nice to have some more crazy Brits in here. Will you be going to the Birm event in Oct? Should be a great day. Cigar boxes are always difficult to find but keep looking at tobacconists and car boot sales. I found a nice old Nicaraguan one at a boot sale for 50p this weekend.
Hi

I've been scouring the threads to find out about this day: can you give some more info or point me in the right direction? Ta.

Hi i'm Alan (OLD OWL) and I live in Kent.
Bloody hell 63 members and 54 replies , I cant be last to sign in.
Self employed florist (stop giggling or you'll get a slap off the old lady)
not recommended believe me!
Originally from the deep South (South London that is) and moved to the sticks
20 odd years ago.
Like everybody else , I have problems getting boxes , but I have all the gear to make
picture frames , so have been making my own boxes , getting the 45s correct is a doddle.
Currently getting the bits together for my 3rd build , the 1st a 3 string was OK but a bit lumpy
the 2nd a 4 string with electrics from Ted Crocker is much better (you may have seen it somewhere
on the site (the Kellogs corn flake packet)
I cant remember exactly how I found CBG's , you know when you click a link , and then another?
But anyway I found Keni Lee , that was it !!!
Trying desperately to make it up to Brum in October , but it's not looking good , we've a big wedding on
that weekend , and apparently I'm needed ( makes me feel really good)

Keep Rocking
OLD OWL

Hi , Im Andy . I'm 28 and live in Colne (nr Burnley) in Lancs..currently a safety steward at Turf Moor
really intetrested in CBGs and Diddley Bows (almost completed my first builds ( 1 and 2 string diddley Bows and a Foot Pedal) after being sent a link to Ted Crockers website.
Love to chat to anyone ...tips, advice on building etc.
Cheers
Andy
Hi Andy and welcome. Colne is not so far from me (Ilkley) and it's there that cbg history was made when me and my CBG buddy from manchester met up for the first time to talk about them. We contacted each other on the old Yahoo cigarbox forum. We had a coffee in Mac's and brought a few guitars to show each other. We'll be at the Birmingham event in October, are you going? Should be a good day out.
Yeah i'll be going to the CBG festival, really looking forward to it tbh. :)
