OK guys shall we post anyhting to do with a UK event this year in this discussion thread so we can easily find it? Chickenbone John has started the ball rolling with his offer of hosting a one day event in Birmingham. Let us know if you are up for it and any ideas you have.

All being well I am definitely up for it. This would be a great buzz and maybe the start of an ongoing thing. There's enough of us here now to make it worthwhile, we just need some commitment and participation.

I've pulled this event from the schedule at The Crossroads Blues Club in light of what people are saying. However, I would like to confirm another date ASAP. From what I hear I think it's going to be after the summer holidays to give the best chance of people being around...and no excuse for not enough time to prepare!!

The sooner this goes in everybody' diaries the better, so let us know what you reckon.
hey thanks for the input Ted.
Catch a plane bro-that'd be SO cool!
That's pretty good advice thanks Ted. John, it's also the lack of response on here that concerns me too. I'm thinking it could take a few weeks to wind up enough peoples' interest to make it viable.
I'm going to try a date in September or early October, which hopefully will be sorted in the next few days, subject to availabilty of the venue and headliner. To run a workshop I need a minimum of 10. As for the Saturday gig, we can fill the place anyway as we know our local crowd, so I'm not too concerned about that.

What I am concerned about is that I get the impression that a lot of the people on the UK forum aren't regular gigging musicians or involved with music events, so may not appreciate how much effort and commitment all this takes. The commitment also has to come from the participants, otherwise it just won't happen....so please....throw us a bone here

Whatever date we fix there's bound to be people who unfortunately won't be able to make it, but I'm going to keep it out of the summer hols. That time of year is very busy for us, there's 2nd anniversary of Crossroads, Birmingham Arts Fest and Catfish Keith, so it has to be fitted in around these other events

If there's no input from the forum, I'll just put on a cigar box guitar evening gig, but I'd much rather make this a proper fully-programmed one day event. I don't want to hog this thing, but in the light of no other contributions or offers of help, I'll have to plough my own furrow...
Hey guys, Iv been on holiday so sorry if Im jumping in on this late, but Sept / oct time would be heaps better for me personally with work commitments etc.

Im of the feeling that more notice should allow more people to organize themselves and get it in the diary, plus give builders more time, especially those of us who work.

It is a huge task to organize such an event and it would be a real shame for it only attract limited interest. If it is a later date, Il happily either split costs or maybe even sort out a mini bus for the Scotland crew if theres enough of us?

As for the event itself, I cant think of a better way to spend a day or two, meeting all you guys, a gig, swapping building tips and ideas, a raffle to win a CBG?, maybe having a play... how about auctioning a cbg for charity - bit of media attention too?
Yes, I was also thinking about a raffle if we can get someone to donate a CBG / slides etc....

It's great if you were prepared to travel so far...and even better to bring others from The Scotland.

If I can get this date re-confirmed, I really want to push this big style in terms of publicity. I'm looking to all the local press / radio / TV and specialist music mags, but it's also unusual enough to push to the national media....you know, recession & hard times , people having to resort to making guitars with only three strings from broomhandles and boxes....but I need to fix the date and set things in motion pronto.

As I've punted out over 100 CBGs in this country...I have a fair sized customer base to draw on, plus the Crossroads Club and my band have got a good reputation locally, and it would also be a case of individual forum members spreading the gospel in whatever way they can.
people-surely the reason only a few brits have contributed to this discussion is that many of them might simply be unaware of it! - to my knowledge no-one has blanket emailed everyone to let them know-I personally emailed 2 brits last week, who then said they'd like to attend, which kinda proves my point I think..?
Good point..I'm still figuring out how to use the features on this forum!!! Think I just found how to message to all members rather than just friends...

Anyway...as a few people had said they couldn't make it, and some wanted more time, I feel putting it back a few weeks will put it into the summer hols. , so I'm trying to fix a date in September.
Il happily donate something for a charity auction or raffle or whatever. Maybe a CBG, or a mini amp or something?
Rightyho...I've re-arranged a date for the First UK Cigar Box guitar Festival..and it's Saturday 3rd October. Hopefully this will be far enough ahead for people to put this in their diaries.

All other details as previously posted...

Venue - Crossroads Blues Club, Tower of Song, Birmingham, daytime workshops from 10.00am onwards, evening gig with Hollowbelly as headline act. Anyhting else you want to throw in the mix, just shout up.
