On the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday (August 24th) our local cricket club is holding a mini beer fest, marquee, burgers, beer etc. If anyone fancies playing in the marquee (beer tent!) during the afternoon and moving into the pavilion for an evening session (some other band with 'bought' guits will be 'on' outside) I'd love to hear from you.
Hope there's no other event going on close by, let me know if it will tread on any toes!
Could arrange camping/floor space etc, but if Seasick Steve could make it, he'd get my room!
I'm really not into what PA system would be needed or even how to organise this sort of thing but I'm sure there is some good advice out there. You know who you are!
Cheer folks,
Bri

do you have a poster designed for this yet Bri ? (-:
Hi Guys, Only 4 weeks to go! Commemorative Ts & Mugs are now in and will be free for all players! There should be a great crowd so I'm looking forward nervously to the gig. Please confirm that you are still OK to play and that you are down correctly on the poster so I can start circulating them locally.
Cheers,
HI Brian i'm only 45 miles away so would love to attend , don't know about playing solo might sit in with someone , any B&B's within staggering distance of the event , Thanks .
It would be great to see you, Grant. No pressure on playing, but after a couple of beers ...! B&B - I'll do some research tmo but one to start with (within a reasonable stagger) is: The White House (4 bedrooms), Thursley Road, Elstead GU8 6LW 01252 702272
Thanks for your interest.
Cheers, Brian
Hi Bletherhawk,
re. PA system.
Peavey used to make good budget PA's ( the old Hisys systems were damn respectable!). I havn't used the current crop.
A good local supplier ( Guitar/music shop) ought to be able to hire you a similar system. Yry before you ( they?) buy!
Active speakers seem more popular and convenient these days ( The Db range at PAsuper are real crackers!) but more pricey. A good investment would be something like that, a pair of speaker poles and a secondhand mixer ( 8 channel mic inputs probably sufficient). Look out for the old Mackie VLZ range of mixers as they have great quality preamps. There are probably a lot of small shops/ guys that are going out of business now so worth looking about for a secondhand bargain.
To my mind, a shure SM58 Vocal mic ( the standard for ever!) is the best way to test out PA systems. Every uses them and many musicians , performers have one. It would not be a fair test of 2 systems if you put one of these, compared to a Peavey Mic!
Hope this helps. a) Try before you buy- Hire/beg/borrow.
b) Active decent Speakers( poles to stick 'em on) + Second hand Mixer. ( You can always upgrade, add reverb and different Mics, DI boxes etc.)
Thanks for that, Andy.
Being totally illiterate regarding PA systems, I think a trip to Andertons (just because I know where it is!) is certainly called for. Knowing the difference between active and passive speakers would be a start! Hope you don't mind if I'm back in touch after a little research.
Thanks again,
B-)
if you're stuck i'll bring my PA Bri, very basic but sounds ok (-:
i already asked that didden i ...? (-:
Cheers, Steve, I'll keep that as my fallback position. I'm off to do some research now, it will obviously better if we can get something rigged up here to save having to lug heavy equipment around. B-)
Yep, we're still in
The picture quality seems to get very pixilated when I tried to read the poster bigger
