Another nooby from England.
Hi from Derbyshire.
After a few years of trying to coax a half-decent tune out of conventional guitars, a friend introduced me to the wonders of the Strumstick. Three strings in open G tuning, diatonic frets, and no worries about "wrong" notes.
Had to have one, so I started building. Did my best with it. Used good, straight-grain mahogany, decent hardware and proper fret wire. I'm no great woodworker though, and never built a musical instrument before, so the thing has it's faults and flaws. Despite all that it sounds great and is more fun than a tax rebate!
With a bit of luck you may see a picture below.
However...
you can't seem to get too far into home-brewed three string instruments without stumbling into the strange and enticing world of the CBG. And then all roads seem to lead to this place.
So, perhaps inevitably, I now have a cigar box from a flea market, a piece of oak from some broken furniture and an awful lot of information and inspiration from here.
Now just trying to get enough spare time to put it all together.
