Neck Woods
This leads to 2 questions....
1. What neck materials do ya'll like to use and why?
2. If you play 90% slide (with very little fretting of notes) does the fingerboard wood have much of an impact on the sound, or at that point is it mostly a look thing?

i mainly use poplar or eed oak because thats whats readily available if i coild find maple or rose in my area i would go with either

Mahogany is my favorite tone wood by far for necks. It just seems to warm up the sound of guitars. I've had a hard time finding an inexpensive source, though. If you don't mind a softer wood, I really like the sound of pine.

Oak, mahogany, walnut, maple... no particular order but hard, strong, pretty and mix in a vertical laminate produces a great looking neck than can handle the load with ease...
I play slide and have even used cedar for a fingerboard, as you say for the looks... My fav is maple or mahogany for the looks... -

Oh, most "Home Depots" carry maple as a stock item... don't expect fancy figured stuff, but straight, strong and pretty in a plain sorta way....
