Is EBE tuning more tension or less?
Hi,
Is EBE tuning more tension or less than the standard GDG? The reason I ask is because my CBG will only have a hemlock neck - it's cheap and I didn't want to ruin a nice piece of maple on my first build.
Therefore I was wondering about using tunings that use less tension. I assumed EBE was less because I was comparing it to the bottom note on a guitar/bass. However I read a post on here the other day that suggested EBE used more tension the GDG.
Can someone advise me please?

EBE is intended for strings 4,5,6- E,A,D. GDG is intended for strings 3,4,5- A,D,G. With that said, if you tune the E string 1 1/2 steps higher to G, it will have way more tension than using an A string tuned down 1 step to G? So really it’s all about string size & scale length? Hope I didn’t confuse :D

Forgot to mention if you take EBE a step lower you’re in DAD which is lower in tension than EBE & gives more of a delta vibe? Easy on the hands?

OK thanks for your help, Brian. According to cigarboxguitar.com there are four possible EBE string sets so I will just have to try each of them out.
