cool, that mike works well!...reminds me listening to that track that I want to start trying to play some harmonica...bought one years ago and played it a bit then forgot about it. They go so well with CBG's though I must get it out again!...did you just teach yourself?
yeah the looping pedal is becoming fun...have to stop myself doing too many layers as it then just ends up sounding muddy and nowhere near as good as it did with just a few loops!
I think you're right...more than 3 or 4 it tends to sound worse...but yeah that's what I was doing the other day doing contrasting things.I think you can get away with more layers that way. I started with some piano, then added a few different CBG's, then some djembe drums, kalimba..was grabbing anything that was around, lol!...anyway by the end I realised you couldn't even hear the piano that I'd started with!!
Oh that's interesting about the harmonica..I got a Lee Oskar one as I read they were good. I looked at some online lessons that explained about bending...I could do it a bit but found it really hard. The one I've got is in C, but think I'd like to get one in G so maybe I'll try one of the ones you said if they're easier to bend with. Sorry to be ignorant, but what does cross harp mean??
hobo express i keep waiting for rolph harris to make an appearance but he obviously missed the train you keep coming up with some great ideas and sounds loving every bit of it cheers
Hey Smojo,
I love your work it's raw, gritty and real not all spit and polish.I would like to build my own amp,how can I get a set of plans from you?????
Hey Smojo, pretty nice harp work, great photos and work. Sir, I am new to 3 stringers and I liked your 3 string improv video. It sounds like you were in E. What strings (from a 6 string) and what tuning do you use?
ever since i could pick a hammer up my old mans had working hanging doors an what not!i studied product design, furniture mainly. i went into exhibition design for a while!
Thanks again for your excellent looper presentation. Very inspiring. I've just dusted off my old, but hardly used Boss RC-2 to see what I can do with it. Good to meet you and hope to see you again, maybe next year.
cheers for the comment, really got lost in it when i recorded it. the first take was better in my opinion but i'm the only one who has heard it as i failed to press record... i need big buttons! think i will be over in leeds sometime soon, would be nice to call in if you're around. keep it free :0)
Inferno track is great stuff! Just been listening to your back-catalogue too. Building into an impressive collection. Also, can notice greater assurance in your music-making as it moves through time. Well done matey, keep 'em coming!
Thanks everyone. This one was done on my "special" CBG. Used the Headrush for loops and Zoom 505 FX pedal with a bit of allsorts in the settings - reverb, distortion, delay etc. It was all done on one track and recorded on the Line 6 Backtrack. Just a bit of trimming off the end on Audacity. I have a few hundred WAV files now from the Backtrack and am wading through sorting out a few decent ones to work up into a listenable track. It's weird, I had forgotten some of the stuff I did and when you play through the files, you can see how each attempt develops and eventually grows inot something reasonable. Quite a few tracks are on a similar theme with variations and it's hard deciding which to use. Hopefully some more coming soon. Time consuming but fun.
Sepulchres. Reminds me of one of my favourite bands of all time called 'Wire' and some of their stuff from their 3rd album which was called 154. Great stuff! Keep it up!
hey thanks again smojo Ill definatley do the edit playlist thing and thanks for the kind words. when it comes to computers I might as well have a rock at my desk I think I could use one them better.

And the hits keep on coming...I'm liking Sepulchres very much, esp. where it really rocks in a couple of places. You're on fire, appropriately enough.
I got the full track too. Cheers.
