Are doing a bolt on neck Peter? If so you should be able to just bolt the neck directly to your mount attached to the box. I usually glue mine also to be sure of a good connection and I will never take the neck off again anyways. If your doing a pocket mount in a body I normally use a small trim router with a straight bit to make the pocket. If you have a pic of what your working with I'd love to take a look at it.
Hi Peter- I think that's exactly what I'll have to do- lay a bit of rosewood or similar under the bridge to lift it. I had a closer look at the current saddle and the slot that it's in; its a very thin slot and the saddle actually seems to be fixed into the slot so I don't think I'll try removing it.
