Jim - I saw your comment re back angle on the neck. My purpose is to give me enough height at the bridge to fit my adjustable bridge (I posted a little article on that awhile back - although others have come up with much more refined designs) and ease the tediousness of set up. Its not necessary if you can use a lower bridge.
Usually amp designs have safety factor in the output impedance they can handle. What you have to remember is if you connect a lower impedance speaker your amp will be drawing more current. The output stage (transistors /ic ) will be running hotter, and without sufficient heat sinking could cause the output stage to fail during long periods of use. Higher impedance usually means lower output power.
