a cigar box was not intended to be a musical instrument, but if crafted correctly it becomes the jewel of the stage and the crowd reacts positivly

Well Danny Boy, for being fairly new to this stuff you've done some cool stuff. I'm guessing you've got experience on other instruments. If not then I'm scared! Plus, if you're digging Sam Chatmon ( who wrote Standin' on top of the World" among other things) then you're OK by me!

  • Jim Morris

Well Danny Boy in my Sam Chatmon comment I should have said "Sittin' On Top of the World" not standin! Check out the Mississippi Sheiks version on youtube. Music has always had spiritual/theraputic effects for individuals as well as in churches. I, for one, would be hard to deal with if not for it! Yes, I do make and sell ukes and all the instruments that I demo in the vids. If I didn't sell them I'd be buried in a cigar box/cookie tin tsunami. Right now I've got about four that I'm working on to fulfill orders. Check out Claire Lynch - she's getting one of my banjos! I'd be happy to make something for you if you're interested. Let me know.

    Jim

Alright! Sam was one of the original Sheiks and claims authorship but I don't think he's gotten any royalties. Most folks ( myself included until recently) thought this song was public domain. I've taught many guitarists how to play uke. It starts to make sense when you think of the uke like a guitar with a capo on the 5th fret. You play the chords the same just omitting the bottom 2 strings. The fact that the 4th string is (usually) tuned high gives it that uke sound but doesn't really change the chord structure. Hopefully that doesn't confuse things for you!

You probably just need to download a driver and in your recording software select it as the input device... it looks slick by the way

now check out the sounds and amp modulations you can get on youtube

its like having every vintage amp and effects pedal you would ever need in one magic box!...

    Iove mine..

read the reviews before you buy anything..

I did exactly that and ended up about to buy the one below

and then realized a zoom r16 was far cheaper and then you have 8 inputs at a time.. and don't need to carry your computer everywhere...

compare the cost of a R8 zoom as well

I needed 4 into one for recording my live stuff..

I read the reviews on the one you said and some had issues.. so check all the feedbacks on them...

my line pod ux2 doesn't like windows 7 by the way...

but when it works i use it for Di to acid pro and its dead quick and easy..

    good luck..

Cheers Danny, hey check out Wades goldfoil pups...they look kinda kool

Cheap SE ribbon mic and tube pre amp works quite well by the way..

I have the Art one, seems to do the job.. good luck with the usb device..

check out the zoom  r 16 too... (i dont like internal mic sound though) tascam is better internal mics... but its fine if you use exterior mics. My pc has a sd slot which is dam good.. so quick and easy to transfer. The tascam looses files if you dont save properly, whilst the zoom doesnt.. lost a whole nights recording yesterday as the tascam ate it....I unplugged the wrong plug whilst exporting..oops!
