You are so welcome, Dianne! The other thing that is not often talked about is how hard the war experience has been on the spouses and even the children of those who served. Fortunately there is more in the literature now about the effects that it can have on family members....

Susan, I'd be honored to build a guitar in memory of your Dad and his service (gratis, of course). Let's talk about what might be appropriate on the instrument via email. What branch did he serve in? Email me....

Dianne, what a great way to thank your husband. He must be very touched. Lana, you're so right -- most people don't know about the Korean War Memorial. My dad fought in Korea (and WWII) and he had nightmares for the rest of his life. I miss him, and he would have completely loved cigar box guitars.

Thanks Lana, I will tell Danny you said thank you for fighting in Vietnam. That will mean so much to him. As well you know, not many appreciated or told our men and women thank you. They had it rough when they came back home. It will make him feel so good that you thought of him. Thank your Uncle for serving and fighting in the Korean War. I have never been to either wall; I don't get to Washington DC. Yes, Danny still has flash backs, he can't watch anything on TV related to the war. Thanks again for being so kind.

I will post the pics as soon as I finish it. Be on the look out for them.

Hi Dianne!!!! That's great news re your Tin CBG!!!! I think it is great that you are honoring your husband this way.... and yes, "honor" is the correct term... In Memory" is the term used once someone is deceased.... and please thank him for his service for me, too! Those folks had it rough.... and I have a lot of respect for them. I used to visit the Wall in DC a lot when I lived there and often met vets there who had come for the first time, or families of fallen soldiers. It is an enormously emotional place and I am glad that it was built to honor our brave men and women who served. The other memorial is the Korean War memorial, and that one will send shivers down your spine. Most people don't even know it is there on the other side of the Lincoln and Reflecting Pool. It seems fitting that people don't even know about it given that we didn't even call what happened in Korea a "war" - it was a conflict even though so many lost their lives and suffered through unimaginable cold and hunger. My uncle served on the front lines and he still has PTSD from that war. He is in his late 70's.... anyway - let's see those pics once you get it done!!! Best, Lana

Hey Ladies, Warning-----I should complete my first Tin CBG this week if nothing doesn't happen. I am in the process of stringing it and adjusting the nut and bridge. I will post a photo of it when finished. I am so close. I have already started another one, it is in honor of my husband fighting in the Vietnam War. Maybe in honor is not the word---isn't that what you use when someone is dead? Anyway, he is much alive, it is for him. Even though he doesn't play, I am making it for him to show him I appreciate him fighting for us in the war. I will post photos as I go along. Ladies, come alive; I hadn't seen any activity on this site in a while.

Lana, are you feeling better today? I hope so.
Comment by Dianne Woods on January 18, 2010 at 10:30am
Susan, yea, if you could blink your eyes twice---Zap you are moved---that would be great. Unforunately, that is not the way it is in the real world. Chill out a little while--pick and play and relax.

Susan - you're a great writer! Yes, moving is indeed about as much fun as a root canal....in fact, I would really consider just taking the root canal over moving if given the option! It's done and over in no time, whereas moving has seemed to drag on for months.... and I still don't have everything completely organized. But I am glad to know that you are happy about moving back to Sonoma County - it sure is beautiful country there....

You're right, Dianne: things here have been quiet. I check on the 'featured instrument,' but haven't had a lot of time to loiter. I'm in the process of moving back to Sonoma County and although I am excited, moving is about as much fun as a root canal.

Hey Lana, that is great you have been building and having fun playing. Yea, I have one CD on Keni Lee, and plan to get more. He is a great teacher.
I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I hope you feel better soon. Keep on having fun pickin. Will check on you later.
