action(string height ) is a matter off personal preference brian some folks suggest a higher action for slide and others say it doesn't realy matter.I good rule of thumb is to use a dime to check the height at the nut and a nickle at the 12th fret but u are in australia so that prolly want help much. Best i can tell u is to experiment until u get it right were u like it same with the tension as far as the slide rockin laterally might just be a matter of tecnique i am sure in ur experimenting u will figure it out

The action shouldn't be to high. but not to low, you will bump your frets, everybody has there own taste, it is best to experiment...but one thing is for sure you need to have the strings spread out...that way you can cock the slide half way up and let some strings ring while you fret or connect with the slide on the others....I see alot of people run the 3 strings down the middle of the fretboard and that doesn't sound to well as you will bump the fret edges when playing aggressively.

The trouble with this movie is that I remember seeing it when it came out! My wife tells me that she remembers the bras they wore in those days too! ( I think she is jealous! :) )
Seriously, i can see what you mean and will immediately make the changes to the space between strings. Mine are much too close.
Secondly i was looking at your slide. i ordered one for my "little finger" and slops all over the place, it does not fit too well on the ring finger either. Shall i squash it in a vice?

I hate to admit this publicly but i will be caught out for sure in the future. I have played guitar/ banjo most of my life except for the last 10 years. Early days i was semi pro but for a long time now it has been family, personal, a bit of church stuff. i thought i would pick this up and play like a pro again, but i am still the worlds worst player! I know..... practice/practice and when i have finished practicing; practice again. :)
