Good thinking Albert , I once played an impromptu gig in Lorient in France with a blues player (right handed player) with no picking hand . he had a cup on his stump with a plectrum grafted onto it , which he had learned to use and boy could he pick (and drink Pernod) but that's another sore head and story

Hello from Bergholz Ohio, I have been losing use of my left hand due to bulging disks in my neck and after seeing  a video of Sea Sick Steve thought I could convert my old Teisco to a 3 string and start to learn open tuning and slide playing.Glad I did because I have been enjoying myself playing in this style. One thing leads to another and I found out about cigar box nation and have been hooked ever since making cbg's and amps.

Hello All, I am from Helena, Montana, the week of December 2, 2013 coldest place in the world, that's right "The World". I have recently been introduced to the cigar box guitar and as an old claw hammer banjo player it has been a fun transition. I have only been building guitars for about six weeks. I currently have 4 functioning guitars and have a bit of love for each of them. This is an exciting hobby and I really enjoy the idea of no rules.

Cheers to all,

DP

My name is Billy. I have been working on perfecting my wheelbarrow bass design for a couple years. I have most of the bugs worked out. My bass is almost never more than 1/2 step out of tune, even though it lives beside the biggest heater/AC duct in the house. I use a K&K Golden Trinity System Pickup/Mic and record through an ART USB Dual Pre interface. I am currently playing LaBella Tapewound strings. I built my tailpiece from Tiger maple and Epoxy finishing resin. My fingerboard is a laminate of Tiger Maple, Hard Maple (skateboard veneers), Walnut, Carbon Fiber strips, 1/2 ounce fiberglass cloth and epoxy finishing resin. The Nut and Saddle are Ebony. The top is Walnut ply. The bridge and neck are Maple. The main shoulder and truss beam is made from poplar and cherry. The bassbar and soundpost are spruce. The entire bass is gasketed and trimmed in leather.

Hey All,

Joined about one week ago.  Been playing 6 strings for some time and am an avid DIY woodworker and come from a line of professional woodworkers.  Never thought to put the two together until I stumbled onto Shane Speal playing 3 string CBG on youtube and of course was blown away.  Just finished my first cigar box amp which I posted pictures of on It Goes to 11 group.  Am currently in the middle of my first CBG build.  Will post some pics when finished.  Look forward to learning how to play.  Any tips on learning to play 3 or 4 stringers i.e. websites, free lessons online and such would be great.

Aaron, your guitars look great!!

Hey Guys,

Just joined a couple of days ago, I'm from Sterling Kansas. I'm a theatre professor at a small college, teaching technical theatre (stagecraft, scenic design, lighting, scenic painting).  I have decent construction and woodworking background. I have been playing the Ukulele for a few years, and decided to check out CBG's were all about. I just built my first two, and am starting to learn how to play, it's already a blast!

Welcome andrew parry,

Each build presents new challenges. now that you got one under your belt, they'll go together much easier. C B Gitty's got these fret templates for each scale that make it a snap.

Hi everyone.....i live in wiltshire and just recently got into cigar boxes after trying the 6 string acoustic but always wishing to be bluesy and folk and also failing to knock a decent 'riff' together,I love the sound of a cigar box so decided to make an acoustic electric.I work with wood so the build was easy enough though I did mess the fretting up at first,I've altered it now with the fret calculator and it sounds OK,good enough for a complete novice but I will persevere to be better,as good as you guys, one day....:)

I like building boxes too. It's easy and i can use a wide variety of wood from scraps and edging from the timber mill and reject guitar factory seconds for soundboards. They sound great acoustic or electric for the thicker wood. I find enough clamps and a very flat workboard make all the difference. For me it adds a lot to the fun of experimentation.
