Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hello Growlin Wolf
Check out the different forum's and groups that are active in areas of interest, you'll find people there willing to share ideas. C.B. Gitty has his store of reasonably priced parts & tools. I recommend his fret scale templates. Don't worry about your first builds, just get to it. Welcome!
Hi all,
I have recently been introduced to the world of cigar box instruments and as a long time guitarist and other instruments, the cg instruments are totally fascinating to me. I'm in the process of learning as much as I can about building my first cg guitar.
I finally made the decision to make a 3 string to start out and then go from there. I have a few cigar boxes I picked up at a local tobacco shop that are pretty cool, a piece of Lowe's red oak and poplar, and picked up a set of tuners yesterday at a local music store (WOW did I pay a premium for those I just discovered.) I'll probably get started this weekend with the build and then finish it up next weekend.
Just as a warning, I'm not very good at building things though I have a full woodworking shop with all of the big tools, so I'm sure I will asking a lot of really basic questions as I proceed.
Finally, I'm 63, retired from the railroad industry and have a ton of different hobbies from my music (singing #1 playing guitar #2) to building custom fly rods to turning custom writing pens in addition to being a computer nerd. I live in God's country of Montana with Glacier National Park as my backyard. It doesn't get any better than this

Hello Nation!....brand new to the site and super excited to network with all the cool people, and learn from all the experts. I have been a fan of the blues for a long time...I play guitar and blow on the harp. Last summer I had the pleasure of hearing Shane Speal play at a festival..... and whammo! I new I had a new instrument that I wanted to tinker with. On to the inter web I went to research this mysterious instrument.... picked up a Kit from CB Gitty and set out to build my cbg.
The pic on my profile shows the first one I ever built....I say that because.....as you all know.....you can't build just one cbg! That first one turned into sort of a resonator cbg...I used a vanity plate that I picked up in Texas a few years back .... and decided to angle cut it and keep gaps in between the pieces for sound holes. When I plugged that thing in it growled.....and from that moment I have had the itch to build more. I have also built a diddley bo,as well as a canjo (pics to be added). I am ready to kick it up a notch now ... and want to build some higher quality pieces. I also want to build some amps, and microphones, which is why I wanted to join this great site... to learn from all of you great people! as well as check out all the cool stuff you all come up with!
Thanks for having me aboard !
Greetings, I'm Frank, live in Utah (for a few more years) but I'm originally from France. I studied classical guitar as a kid, cello, composition... I've been making flutes (Raven Wing Flutes, long story) for 13 years, and only recently discovered the CBG. Just had to make them, so I'm on my 3rd one, so much fun...
I'm in Lee County FL - I help mod reddit.com/r/cigarboxguitars. I'm curious to know if theres anyone nearby that builds CBGs. Although I'm still a newbie I've built about 10 CBGs in the last year or so. I'd like to trade tips or even get together to build a few. I'm planning on selling my gits later this year under the name FrogDog guitars. Heres some of the work I've done
I'm Jay from Sanborn, NY (near Buffalo). I play all things bass, and also tinker with CBG's. I bought a three stringer fretless from Shane about three years ago. Love taking it on trips so I have something to play on and not worry about damaging it.
I play upright bass in an old timey string band - Timbre Land Whiskey Band. We are a bunch of young people who love playing old music together.
hello group. My name is Mark Gibson, i live in south east michigan and play guitar. i built a cigar box tenor guitar a few years ago and have played it a number of parades and i'm happy to find this group of cbg fans.
