Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hi everyone
New here, haven't built a cbg yet. Have read a lot of stuff here. I have built a mountain lap dulcimer, I replaced a sound board on what I think is a strumstick.
I have started to collect a few things for my first build. I'm from, and still in New Jersey (central ) I hope to learn to play my soon to be new cbg. The dulcimer, I built well over a year ago and still can't really play it. Well I think my next step is going to be to join a few groups here and get some answers to some questions I don't have yet. With that, my best to all the new members and old members and hopefully soon to be new friends.
Greetings all! Saw a CBG article on a site called The Art of Manliness. Got intrigued and started to read up. Man was I blown away! Didn't know there was that big a following. Glenn Wyatt's blog also served as great inspiration.
Started my first build about two weeks ago. Kind of like a squirrel gathering acorns, I've collected things here & there. Now everything I lay my eyes on might serve as a tailpiece, a bridge, a sound hole . . . you get it.
I'm a creative graphic designer, caricature artist, former Walt Disney World show artist and like messin' around with wood, tools & such. It's all a good mix and CBG building is becoming a nice pastime. I'll post my progress. So far, I'd say it's looking good. Take care all.
Hello all,
My names Travis, but everyone calls me Trapper. I fell in love with CBG's about 2 years ago, and finally started building my first one last week. I'm almost done and im quite excited to start playing it. thanks to all the folks who posted their builds on here. I may have just joined but ive been trolling around here for 2 years justsoaking in all the wisdom, and humor that goes into each build.
I just joined a while ago after discovering cbg's and making a few. I always was into music but couldn't ever play anything. i finally decided to learn to play bass, which led to fixing an old broken neck dean 6 string and playing it to making cbg's. I have a 3 string electric, a didley ploank, an acoustic 3 string, and a cookie tin 2 string canjo. I have started to write and record on them and I love it. Not much to do in Wisconsin in the winter but play cbg's and start plotting the building of more of em'! I was priveleged to be included on the Soapbox rants and raves album and hope I get to contribute more in the future.

Nice one,Ole....
Hi all
Just joined a few days ago. I'm from Denmark and have been trying to learn guitarplaying for around 2 years now. Two months ago bought my first CBG from ChickenboneJohn and a slide from Diamondbottlenecks and I have been playing this CBD every day since.
I just play to have fun, and today I managed to upload my first video on youtube with me playing a homebrewed version of Paris, Texas :-)
Looking forward to see and hear more cool stuff on the site, so I can learn some more :-)
/Ole
Welcome Rex,
Hind sight is 20/20. Glad your spirit is intact and you're ready to play. Maybe sing about the table saw blues! Push sticks are a must and I think it wise to have someone near by if we goof up too badly. Cheers.
Okay I have run into a problem. I started off by making a couple of koras. I then found this site and have built a couple of cbg's. Last Sunday I was cutting out a compound neck for a new 3 string bass and I stupidly put my left hand on the rotating saw. I have lost 3/4 of an inch of my index finger and screwed up the tips of my second and third fingers. I am already working out a method of being able to play. I will not give up.
But, this need not have happened And it is my first major accident caused by negligence in 78 years. So stupidity does not go away with age. Look around to see that you are sure where everything is before switching on the saw. Do a stop/start to check if vibrations are going to move any objects. Use a push stick
Welcome,Mick. The Derbyshire Dales are lovely at this time of the year.I shall have to get up there some time soon. Have fun with your build and let's see some piccies when it's finished....
Greetings from England! I live just outside Derby UK (pronounced Darby over here). Took up guitar four years ago at 50. Love most genres of music but have a soft spot for roots blues. I knew nothing of cbgs until I saw Seasick Steve on TV and thought that's for me. That was quite a while ago. Whilst helping my sister move I noticed she was throwing out a couple of 35mm photographic slide boxes and that was it the build began. With a scratch built neck hewn from a lump of National Grid electric pylon mahogany ply (it's like a yard of steel) with car wiper blade stainless frets it's probably 75℅ complete. And I can't wait to hear how it sounds. Looking at all your workmanship on CBN has both encouraged and inspired me..All I need to do now is learn to play . best regards to all. Mick
