This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hello fellow CBG builders and players. My name is Brian, and I am from Minnesota. I love building anything that I can play music on. My work includes cigar box instruments, can instruments, banjo's, and some pvc flutes. I have been into this for a few years now and I don't ever want to stop. I am currently seeking a music education degree and look forward to seeing and sharing with all of you the beauty of this folk art.

Hi All

My name is Rob.  I developed my CBG addiction last fall.  It all started with some blues research, then I discovered Seasick Steve. Then I made my own Diddley Bow. Now I'm on my second 3  string guitar and I don't even know how to play. I've  even started to learn music.  I think about CBGs even at work, I have a room full of wood and a box of supplies from CB Gitty.  I've even backed my wife's car out of the garage so I would have a place to work. Is there a cure? No wait I don't want to be cured this is way too much fun.

First of all, she would never  ever ever really slap me. It was my wife's b'day and we posed for a lot of pictures so, I don't really know what was going on, she loves me with all her heart!  I am Building (as in construction) my first CBG, but already have orders for 5 more.  My 4th grade friend, told me, and his cousin, who told his friend, who told my brother, who told his friend!  Well you see where this is going.  Now I'm expected to build one for everyone I've ever known!  Do they have any tools?  NO!  Do they have any skills?  NO!  Do they have any money?  Again the answer is NO!  Do I have any skills, tools, or money?  I've worked with wood, my tool shed is my back yard, and do we have to talk about money?  Uncle Sam will have to wait a while for me to figure out if I made any money this year!  So lets build, build, build, while we still can.  The music?  OH!  The music, that's what makes this sight my favorite!  I'm just on my first build, but don't forget we build them to play them!

Hi All, I got into the Nation from the old Yahoo group so I've been lurking for quite a while. I'm a retired computer tech in Dublin Ohio. I built a hollow body electric guitar back when I was 19 and I am now 72+. I need to rebuild it since my granddaughter trashed it - well broke it apart at some of the glue joints. I've been wanting to build some cigar box instruments and possibly try to peddle a few to make a few pennies to help with the retirement income. Now's the time to start I guess.

Just really can't enough of this place. Hello all, new to the scene and loving it.

Maximo is my road name, and my family are hill folk from WV, Webster County area. The locals don't know me there, I live in the high plains desert of NW Utah, just incase some of you eastern locals wanted to look me up. Anyways, I am looking forward to being here with all the fine tunes being produced and the education on top of the biz as well. 8-) Maximo

Well just finished my first CBG, thanks to the inspiration of this site and ol Shane Speal. Not to bad for my first try and will be adding photos soon (got to let finish dry) . I too don't know much about playing but realy enjoy the process of learning and realy enjoy simple music with real heart!

Hi everyone, I've been snooping around on the site for awhile and love it. Tons of great info and inspiration to build and play. I've built three cbgs so far and don't know if I'll be stopping anytime soon. I guess the one downside is I have no clue how to play, but hopefully i'll pick it up along the way.

just found out about CBGs among other handmade stringed instruments last week. I would love to connect with some like minded hearts and souls in this Art Form and Creation and am wanting to help keep its breath alive and be a staple in my life.
