Thanks Bob. Big Greeen is quite some carving engine with those cogged wheels

that look like the timing belt for some automotive motors. I guess, there is a

cogged rubber belt to go with them so you can do increments of 360 degrees?

That is so cool, but I've having some difficulty with understanding the necessity

of having gear pulleys and a cog belt..isn't the stylus supposed to follow the sample

carving that you are duplicating?

Bob..what are the  gear pulleys at the front for?

Wow Bob!   Big Green looks just awesome!  Mine will be very modest compared

to yours, but hopefully will suffice for the type of carving reproductions I want

to do with it.  Still haven't cut the wood for the swing box..getting to it soon though.

That looks like a elegant version.    I'm still working on my swing box copy carver.

Didn't do much over the holidays on it, but I have the parts now and it's just a

matter of assembling it. Should be able to try it out by end of January.

I'm hoping to duplicate some of my carvings, so I scaled it down somewhat (25%)

as I don't need the travel of the swing box or carriage rails, for what I want to

use it for.  I prefer to do my guitar necks free style, as the width and profile need

to fit the type of guitar being made.

Wow! Impressive Bob! Certainly looks much more professional than
the one I'm working on. Yes, I can get 5/8 cold rolled round steel,
but I had the 3/8" aluminum rod left over, so it didn't cost me anything
and I decided to try it. I figured out the solution with my table saw,
making groves on either side, so the inside of the pulley is now
resting on the round rod..a bit more work than I anticipated,
but I didn't want to start drilling holes and countersinking them
in cold rolled steel..although the fastner store does have 1/2
aluminum rods (36"L) that will meet my requirements.

Another problem was that the vbelt pulley supply place didn't
have any shaft collars in stock...and I can't seem to find them
around where I live, so I'm cutting 4 out walnut stock, drilling
and threading a hole for a set screw. Now the pillow blocks
for the bushings.,..sold out as well, so I'll have to make those
out of wood as well.

Ok, ran into a small problem..the 6 inch vbelt pulleys and the 3/8 aluminum solid rod did not quite fit because the pulley walls were
a bit deep. What to do..I already had mounted the solid rods on
the wood runners and filed the screws so that the alumium rod
was smooth. In the middle of the night..Eureka! I would fit one
of my old carbide blades on the table saw and saw grooves in the wood around the alumum rod , so the vbelt pulley would fit.
After a few carefully maneuvered cuts, (round rod doesnt exactly
run flush on the table saw top), I got the two channels cut out
and the vbelt pulley fits like it is suppose to. Nothing in the plans
I got mentioned that little bit of extra work.

Bought some plywood yesterday for the base, and a jacobs drill chuck
(new-online). Today, I'm getting the solid axles and ordering the
pulleys for the wheels, since it's "Cyber Monday" and the online store
is offering free shipping. Right now, I'm doing the squirrel thing..
collecting parts here and there.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving holiday Bob. What progress if
any on your copy carver? I've decided to scale mine down about
25% from the plan dimensions to save on space and also the fact
that I don't plan on carving large carvings. I'm ready to pickup up
the parts and the wood to build it next week.
