Lacquered box w/ velvet on the bottom?

What is up with that -- I picked up a couple of interesting boxes today (Trilogy Corojo Ovation, Carlos Toraño Virtuoso Maestro) which are marred by the use of a lacquer / plastic like finish (yellow, white) and have a black pseudo-velvet on the bottom. If I want a CB jewelery box, I'd ask for one, dammit!

I got the boxes for a buck each, but I think I may have to trash them: the velvet stuff doesn't want to come off, and the material underneath looks like cardboard. The one box had a glued-down solid filler bar, which, when I pried it off, brought bits of the cedar veneer with it, definitely showing cardboard underneath. What is the world coming to when a seven dollar cigar comes in such a nasty box?

Don't trash them. Cigar Boxes in Australia are like gold! (NO... I am not after a gift just to let you know that we treasure even junk CBs)

If you are going to make a CBG that is amplified, then don't worry about the velvet bottom. Stick a sander in there to get rid of most of it if you like.

Under string pick up would be great, Piezo mounted in the box up against the sound board would be fine too.
