Spray can of sealer, clear matte finish. Anything and everything will work, the object is to use what you have off the shelf in the garage, and be a Pioneer in CBG inovation.

I just did up two natural oak necks, using a rattle can of clear gloss Lacquer.

I used the Danish oil in the end and put it all together last night. Very nice :-)

As for oak, how do you find it for rgidity? The oak is 20mm thick (just over 3/4") but the neck is narrow. I haven't got around to giving it he full scale lenght and tension I was aiming for yet.

"Lemon oil" is nothing more than mineral oil with a few drops of lemon smell added for consumer appeal.

Danish oil is a trade name for a mix of drying oil, varnish, and thinner. You can roll your own from equal parts boiled linseed or tung oil, whatever oil-based varnish you like, and mineral spirits or turps. Rag on, wait 20 minutes, wipe down until dry. Repeat until shiny enough. Rag is best disposed of by taking outdoors and burning.

I've done a lot of "oil finishing" with nothing more than varnish, cut up to 50% with paint thinner. It builds faster and holds up better than "Danish" oil. Has the same dull gloss feel as oil. Most people can't tell the difference. Unthinned varnish dipped straight from the can seems to work, too.
