Just a little more that a week until our next Sacramento Area Cigar Box Guitar Workshop. At the Rocklin Maker Faire we gave out about 100 cards and had about 30 people sign up for our next meeting at 1pm on Nov 1st at The Strum Shop, 408 Roseville Square, Roseville, CA 95678. This will be a good chance to introduce new members into building and playing CBGs. We will have some great cigar boxes for sale, a show and tell and an open mic for anyone to pickup any instrument and play. As always, thanks to Stu and the gang at The Strum Shop, our meetings are FREE and open to the public.
WOW! Wish I could be up in Sacramento for this event. I was just up there for a family reunion. "Ukes For Schools" is a great cause. I have my own foundation, "The Ukuele Ray Foundation," and donate ukes for after school programs and children's hospitals. I've donated dozens of my own Lunchbox-A-Leles over the years for these very causes, as well as gotten support from my endorsee/sponsors. Please keep me posted for future events. Never know when I'll be in the area.
Here's my version of "Folsom Prison Blues" with a pretty cool Cigar Box Uke by EleUke featured in one of the solos. It was filmed on-location at Folsom Prison and Old Sac. Peace!
We are putting our plans together for the Rocklin Mini Maker Faire on Saturday October 3rd from 10am to 4pm at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. Scott & I are the only ones that are going so, so we could use some help from the other members of the Sacramento Area CBG Workshop for the event. We are selling decorative cigar boxes for the Ukes for Schools charity and they are going to help out with the sales. Our next meeting will be Sunday, Nov 1st, 1 pm at the Strum Shop.
Rich,
I will put your music calculator in the mail tonight. Enjoy.
Will,
See you tomorrow.
I just received an email from the Rocklin Mini Maker Faire, accepting our application and inviting to have a booth on Saturday October 3rd from 10am to 4pm at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. We will show our CBGs and let the people play them. The organizers were most interested in our Cat/Dog Bowl gits, the PETE1 CB Banjo and the 1 string Diddely Bows. We will have a chance to talk about and plan for the event at our meeting on Sept 13. I will try to get a date for our next meeting from Stu, so that we can make up a business card with our info and the date of the next meeting and maybe get more people to attend our meetings.
I have found the perfect prize for the Cat/Dog Bowl Git contest on Sept 13th. A Cohiba Toro "Blond" cigar box. So get those resonators tuned up and ready to go!
We may be taking the Sacramento Area CBG Workshop to the public in order to get more people involved in CBG. MAKE Magazine is having a free to the public Rocklin Mini Maker Faire on Saturday October 3rd from 10am to 4pm at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. I have applied for a FREE 10 by 10 foot booth for our group to show our Gits and let the public pick them up and play. We would have our regular Show & Tell meeting all day. I will not know if we are selected until the promoters meet sometime after Sept 4th. We may know by the meeting on Sept 13th. If you want to bring your instruments and help, please let me know.
OK....I got a date that fits my & the Strum Shops schedule for our next Sacramento Area CBG Workshop. Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 1 to 4 pm. Our project is to build a cat/dog bowl resonator git. Scott won the canthing contest, are you going to let him win again? Gary has a new table saw, so he may be a good contender. Our attendance has been down at the last few meeting, so lets get out and enjoy this hobby in greater numbers!
