Won a blue ribbon @ the county fair for this "Hillbilly" Canjo. Also was "played"@ the Hatfield & McCoy family reunion @ The Senior Ctr.

Right on Bro! There's not too many things anymore that you can have fun without spending a fortune, do your own thing and not hurt anyone. Happy to be a Rebel with a cause.

I think the reason the "no rules" bit appeals to us is there is a bit of anarchist in all of us. We don't need no stinking rules. HA! Building what ya want and having fun is what it's all about.

I really like the no rules part! Gives a no talent old guy like me a fighting chance!

Comment by Graham Alibone on July 27, 2013 at 10:29am

Pete, I'll bet 50% of us started this way, I know I did. So have fun and remember there are no rules.

I guess I do things backwards. I just made my first cigar box 3 string, can't play a lick, but having fun & saw all the fun y'all we're having w/Canjos & decide to make one, pictures soon.

I don't have a diagram of one but have made them before. Look at my pictures BB01- BB02 on my page. I use a Ukulele piezo on these but you can cut a regular round one down to size. There are diagrams on this site some where so you just have to look around a little more.

Has anybody got a diagram of a can-jo eith a piezo pick up

Cool, thanks.  A music fest or something else?

Comment by smilingdog1 on July 10, 2013 at 8:43am

Yes, I had great success selling them at a fest back in June. The funny thing was I didn't have time to assemble them all and the ones in kit form sold the fastest. People just needed a demonstration of what the sounded like and how easy it was to play them. I suggest setting up outside a little ice cream vender where crowds naturally gather.
