Hi everybody..I've been keeping my head down for a while...busy with work, guitar shows etc...but I'm back in the saddle for the run-up to Boxstock.

As you may know, we are back at The Public in West Bromwich this year. I had a tech meet with them this week, and will be finalising the running order shortly. Basically, on Saturday we will be kicking off at 10.00am, and running the morning sessons until 1.00pm The break for lunch will include a couple of 'showcase performances' in the ground floor lobby/cafe area, se we'll be keeping activities rolling all thru' the day. The afternoon will run 2 -5.00 pm, concluding with our first HGMC annual General Meeting don't worry, we'll keep is short and to the point!

The evening gig is underway at 8.00pm. This year we are in the theatre rather than the "Pink Tank" space, so it's a more intimate space for the evening gig, and they have a great PA system too.  The bar will be open until midnight, and the building itself closes at 1.00 am.  We are aiming to leave ourselves with a bit of time after the main performances to chill-out and jam to wind the evening down.

If you haven't bought a ticket yet, it helps retain what's left of my sanity to know how many people are likely to be arriving on the day.  I particular, because we are aiming to repeat some of the players workshops for smaller groups so that you don't need to make a choice of one activity or another, it will really help me programme this. Of course I don't want to get too formal about it, but I do need to do some planning to make sure these activities work as well as we can make them.

OK..bye for now..and hopefully I'll be seeing quite a few of you in a few weeks time.

For the Friday open mic, all you need to bring is your guitar (plus stompbox or whatever).

The  PA, mics,  backline amps and leads will be provided.

Is that the same for Saturday John?
Gutted to be missing this... : (
Hi good people...if you are thinking of coming along the the FRIDAY night open mic can you please let me know. This will help me get a feeling of how many people we might need to fit into the schedule.  It's all pretty flexible and informal, but it will really  help me to have advance warning, and also for the landlady in case they are going to be overwhelmed at the bar!

Hello CJ,

Just to let you know that the Revd Mississippi Mud (Geoff) and his wife, will be traveling from Devon, to the fest on Sat, and looking forward to being there to share the wonderful event.  We will be putting up for membership just as soon as I can retrieve some time to do so.

Thanks you for your efforts and consideration,

Revd Missisippi Mud

Sign me up for the Friday night John - yes, my open mic debut!

Dont worry fellas - Iv chosen the 3 shortest songs I could find, with few lyrics :o)

Hiya buddy..thanks for getting your tickets...I'm waiting for Ian to get back to me,  I'm trying to strike a deal with him to get him there...so I'll keep you all posted as soon as I can. If you don't know about Kevin Brown, here he is on his Kindade oilcan guitar.....

Hi john, Sign me up for a couple of tunes on the friday night please!!

Alan.

Hi John - I shall also be there on the Fri. night - up for a tune or two if there is time.

This is already looking righteous for the Friday...I was at the Barge and Barrel earlier this week..there's quite a bit of interest, and I reckon a few locals may want to play, and although I want to be as inclusive as possible, it will be a case of priority to CBG / HGMC people...if they are toting a regular 6 string, well...too bad...I can listen to somebody wailing a Les Paul any night of the week....

Oh...by the way good people....and this is particularly important down the pub...remember, this most definitely ISN'T Birmingham...it's the Black Country. I know that Brum is only a few miles away...but Black Country folk take their regional identity seriously and are very proud of  their remarkable and distinctive accent. Here's a couple of links to help you with the local lingo and lifestyle.

By the way...to the best of my knowledge, Les will NOT be at the open mic...

Ah, good - no one will notice when I fluff me lines then :o)
