Hi Furgus here's where i got my winding wire from it's 42 swg which is what you want and it costs £11.50 for 500g http://wires.co.uk/acatalog/SX_0100_0132.html
Maplin do winding wire but the smallest they do is 40 swg but 42 is the prefured gauge - its 38.39 for 250g

Thanks!! I better get the recommended gauge then from that site you linked me! Thank you so much! How many pickups can you wire with 50og? I can't wait to start making these, my first will be a six string pup for a lap steel cbg!

not sure how many you would get from 500g i would guess at least four six srting pups , i have made two four string pups , one with 7,800 winds and the other 9,000 winds and theres still more than half the spool left , sorry thats all i can tell you , ted would know for sure ask him
