Hi guys and gals...following on from the discussions about something happening in the South Yorkshire area, looks like somehting will happen..and sooner rather than later. These dates are tentative at the moment, but I've been asked to do this, so if at all possible, I'd like to make it happen. It's come about from my being at the guitar shows, and one of the other stallholders runs an open mic at this venue, saw me playing and asked me about doing something.

Friday - 22nd July Cigar Box Guitar open mic

Saturday - 23rd July - Cigar Box guitar players workshop with my good self. (timing to be sorted, but probably late morning/lunchtime to early evening)

Venue -  The Polish Club, Barnsley.

Looks like it's all free  -  just turn up and play - house PA, backline provided. For the workshop, we don't need many to make it work, and indeed, it's better if there aren't too many...again free (though if people want to cross my palm with some petrol money for the workshop that would be cool).   This is all pretty much on the fly and late notice, but I'd prefer to make it happen on a small scale NOW rather than faff about and wait...we can always do something bigger later on in the year.

So come on..any one up for this?....lets see what we can throw together.

HIya

For those of you coming along to the workshop, do shout up if there's anything in particular you'd like to cover. I'll be bringing my own 3 string guitars, plus 4 string, 6 string and diddley bow.

The tunings i mainly use are

C - G - C (using 036, 024 and 016 strings)

G - B - D (using 023, 018 and 014 strings)

String gauges are approximate (and I use 25 1/2inch scale generally), but I should be able to adjust these a tone or two to suit the general concensus.  If you use string gauges and tunings that are WAY different from me it might be worth re-stringing, but I will have some spare guitars that I can tune up accordingly and pass round, and also plenty of spare strings & slides.

John

I'd like to know how you play "I walked into this bar"

Please.

I would like to learn back up in jamming with 3 string & diddley bow and some easy tune(s) -- "house of the raising sun"?

And any tips for budding players and builders. Gandalf.

Sorry to hear that Mal.  Well...well, it's a busy weekend for me all round, just putting the finishing touches on a couple of guitars and then I'll be hitting the road up North.
have a good un 'bone.

Sorry to sound thick, but I've no idea what my string gauges are, I use the 3rd, 4th and 5th strings, will they cope with those tunings ok?

Cheers.
