What do you find most interesting about cigar box guitars? (If you do not enter something meaningful here, your membership may be rejected).
I am a general music teacher. We build cookie tin guitars as a final 3rd grade project. This is my 6th year making them.
We use cookie tins because they are cheaper than cigar boxes. I have the high school woods teacher cut the necks from 1X2's. The piezo pick-ups are soldered by a retired math teacher/musician and a friend who works at national guitar making company. We put 4 frets with his help as well.
The kids get a kit consisting of friction pegs, a neck, the piezo pick-up, and a pre-cut tin. They construct the instrument and then I string each with 30 lb fishing line.
