Hi All!
I have been a member here for a while and thought I would finally say hello.
First of all I have never made or even thought of making a musical instrument.
I stumbled across this site while looking to buy a couple of nice wood cigar boxes
to use as pull out drawers on an apothecary chest project I had in mind.
Well that all changed when I saw the guitars you all were building.
This was the first I have ever heard of a cigar box guitar, I had to know more!
I have very little free time to spend on my projects so I put a lot of thought
into what I am going to build.
After looking at thousands of pics on your site and some utube vids I knew I had
to make one!!
My first build went fairly smooth.... I learned alot! For example -
I started with a 24 fret fretboard on a old yardstick it seemed a bit to long so I
decided to save it for another project and just buy a few more yardsticks and make a 20 fret instead.
Well the new yardsticks the sell now are only about an inch to a inch and a quarter wide so I cut one from Home Depot and one from Lowes in half length wise and glued
them together to make a fretboard one and half inches wide; it looks pretty cool.
I used caribou antler for the nut and the base for the bridge, Popular for the neck, and the tuners and electronics are from evilbay.
After a few more minor learning experiences I came up with my Macanudo Cigar Box Guitar.
I tuned it to G,D,G and I don't want to pat myself on the back but it sounds pretty damn good!! I can't believe I made a working instrument!
Here is a pic of the finished guitar and if I can figure out how to make an album of pics I will post more of the guitar and the build.
Thanks for the addiction I already have the next build started!

Welcome TW - Nice job!!!
I hope you are prepared for all this!!! You only think you will build one!!
Welcome to the Nation. It's not really addictive, I just finished my 15th build and I still have most of them hanging in the hall. I can quit any time I want to...I just don't want to. :)>
Very nice work mr. wyatt! I really like the idea of the yardsticks and the antler. I have looked at the bin of antler pieces in the dog treat section of the Bulk Barn and thought of using some. That's probably my favorite part of this addiction is looking at everything in the world with a new set of eyes......hmm what can i turn this into on my next build. Ha Ha i love it! Keep up the nice creative work.
Not to divert the subject, but a friendly reminder:
Do not breath the dust when working with bone or antler. Very serious potential consequences, far beyond the hazards of certain tropical hardwoods.
I do have more pics here: http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/album/listForOwner?screenName=1...
