Hello all! Longtime lurker, first time poster here. I don't know why it took me so long to join, but better late than never, right?
So, a little about me. I was stumbling around YouTube a few years ago and saw a crazy contraption called a cigar box guitar. I now! Crazy, right? I HAD to build one and I ordered Jelly Belly's Stick, Box, and String video. Fast forward to today and I've build 5 or 6 now and am now starting to tinker with amps too. My latest build is an Underwood box. I have built it and been playing it acousticly, but I just bought a 3 pole Electric Delta single coil kit from CBGitty for it and will install it soon. I also built a little practice amp out of another Underwood box using CBGitty's 2.5 watt practice amp kit so I have a matching guit and amp. I can't wait to rig it up. I also built a matching Arturo Fuente guitar and amp with the same amp board recently but used a disk piezo in it.
I guess that's enough for now. I will be posting pics of builds past, present and future as soon as I figure out how to post pics to this forum.
Special thanks to Shane Speal for giving me the itch to build when I saw his videos on YouTube a few years ago. That's what sent me down this path. Also, thanks to Glen Watt for his excellent series of How-To videos on YouTube. Those videos gave me the courage to make scarf joint necks and to regular pickups in them.

Welcome from another newbie. It's was Glen Watts's videos that got me building. I just stated a couple weeks ago and on build number 2 as well as just sketched out four more necks tonight on a nice slab of maple I scavenged yesterday. I'd love to try some amps after I master the guitar building! I was turned onto to cigar box guitars when they came up in a discussion about soulful sounding instruments. To post picture on these forums that little bar with the icons above the text, click on those, one is for pictures, the second one in. What does it take to build the amps? I bet I could scavenge everything everything for them like I've done for my guitar builds in progress.
The little 2.5 watt ones that I've built were built using CBGuity's practice amp kit. It's easypeasylemonsqueezy. If you can build a guitar, the Gitty amp kit is a no brainer. I also just bought one of the Tone Monster 5 watt amp boards for my next amp. Going to build the amp in a little box and build a 10 or 12 " single speaker cabinet for it too. It's really weird how you start dipping your toes in the water and the next thing you know you're diving off the high dive. Lol.
So true! I looked up building an amp from scratch but it made my head hurt hahaha. Maybe I'll try out one of those little kits. Same for building guitars, I stared out simple now I'm getting quite ambitious building electric cbgs, 4 stringers, getting fancy with the headstocks.and planning some fretboards. Starting a bass tonight and 3 more builds making 9 going at once, not all for me but most are. We get a taste of it and can't stop, got to get bigger and better/more challenging with each one.
If you scroll down in this thread, I just added a couple pictures of builds with matching amps. Both amps are done with the Guity 2.5 watt board
Welcome Ian, Youtube brought me hear too.
This is one of my current builds. Putting a 4 pole Mandolin? single coil in it. The amp was built to match another Arturo Fuente curly head guitar I made. The guitar made it's way to Paris to my friends son and he will pick up the amp when he comes to the States to visit in a month or so then they will be together.
Matching Underwood 3 string and amp. It's my first raked back scarf joint neck. The side pieces were some scrap I had left over from making some whistles for all my friends kids. I kinda copied the look of Rickenbacker guitars for the sound hole and headstock shape. Just took the guitar apart to install a 3 pole Electric Delta pickup with tone and volume. Still trying to figure out the install on that pickup since no instructions came with it and no video on YouTube for it. I'm sure I can cypher it out though.
I think I'm making these pictures too big. How do I size them?
Beautiful, how do you do the headstock wings? Is wood glue sufficient to hold? I saw one with the tuning key post right through the seam. I've got two boxes with a similar picture, I'm just about to draw out a neck with a crown shaped headstock for one. Love the matching amps.
