As the Title say: I am looking for any resource to learn to play a frettless 3 string CBG.

A Book or DVD would be great. Free stuff is always apreciated.

No fretts, no more strings, just those 3 strings and my bottleneck. we need help ;-)

        • I've been using Keni Lee Burgess' DVD purchased from ebay.

$10.99 USD and he will ship internationally too.

I know everyone wants one source, but I tend to collect as many beginner tutorials as I can afford. Ever teacher is a little different and  each student learns in a different way too.

          Lots of great video here and on YouTube, couple of my favs. One cover and one tutorial;

I agree, and i dont mind to use several different resources, but sometimes it happens that the use of one makes the other one less usefull for one, isnt it?

            The links are cool, thanks

            • I would like to offer advice, and hopefully it doesn't offend anyone, you'll do much better to learn a fretted cigar box guitar, to at least you'll need to properly mark out fret lines,

if you can, get a fretted cigar box guitar first, otherwise you will not learn, it is very hard to learn on a fretless guitar with no experience, otherwise you will never know where to stop the slide!

unless you are gifted with an "ear" and the ability to hear pitch, you will find it very difficult to learn on a fretless.

              • Oh i play "regular guitars" for many years already. So i have experiance with frets.

My CBG has (burnt) fretmarks. And my first built will have marks too. But no real fretts

Ther reason why i want to learn slide on a fretless is:

                - i have a fretless

                - i like that its limited, just sliding, no fretting, i like the idea, its more "minimalistic" i think

i am sure  i will (Later) also try fretted 3 strings, or 4 strings or slide on my 6 strings, .... who knows

  • You want to play fingered fretless or just slide?

    • Just slide right now. The CBG I have, has a very high action.

Fingered later i think. I will built a frettet one, for that later. Anyway a book can contain both, i wouldnt mind. As long as i get enough input for sliding right now. Maybe a Tabcollection would help right now.

      • There is a ton of free information on 3-string slide here on CBN and on YouTube.

If you don't mind paying for lessons I highly recommend LearnCigarBoxGuitar.com by Mr. Patrick Curley. He has online courses for basic 3 string slide, 3 string fretted, 3 string blues slide, 4 string fretted and a lot more. You pay a one time fee of $47 and get access to all of the site content (currently 85 video lessons and 5 E-books) plus all future content. It's a great value and I really like the way he teaches.

Oh, almost forgot to mention that the video lessons are accompanied by supplemental information (in PDF format) such as tablature, music theory and detailed explanations of key concepts covered in the video.
