Hello everyone, I just wanted to make a quick post about the recent changes here at CBN. As many of you already know, I took over running Cigar Box nation from its founder, Shane Speal. While there was a financial side to it, the transition was marked by friendship and cooperation. While I have made some minor tweaks and changes, including a redesign of the site look and feel, I am committed to keeping CBN much the same as it has always been without major changes: a bustling, vibrant community that is the headquarters of the cigar box guitar movement.

Late last week, once the final steps of the ownership transition was complete, Shane Speal chose to leave Cigar Box Nation entirely, deleting his account from the server. Unfortunately as part of this all of the content he had created and contributed over the years was also deleted. I have spoken to him about this and he wanted me to let everyone know he is very sorry about this - he did not mean to delete his content from the Nation. While we are all sad to see Shane step away from the nation, I truly hope that it is the right step for him and that in time he will be able to return to the community he founded. As I have said before, to me he is and always will be the king of the cigar box guitar.

We are coming up on the third anniversary of Cigar Box Nation on December 10, and I am confident that with the support and contributions of so many great members we will continue to grow and thrive. I would also like to thank all of you that have taken the time to offer congratulations and give advice. I appreciate it!

Ben, any chance you can hyperlink the top banner back to the Home page?

I've been clicking it like an eejit for the last 5 minutes :-D
The loss of the linked header is an unfortunate side effect of getting rid of all of the blank space at the top of the page. If you recall, there used to be a couple of inches above the banner graphic. That and the large banner meant a lot of scrolling just to get to meaningful content. The downside of improving that is that the banner graphic no longer links to the homepage.

Did you see the HOME button under the title bar?

Does this not work if added to your Analytics box?

<script type="text/javascript">
if (typeof(x$) != 'undefined') {
  var href_src = "http://www.cigarboxnation.com";
  x$("#application_name_header_link").attr("href", href_src);
}
</script>

Now that I have pondered this, I think I like "revival" rather than "revolution".

And I prefer the star in the logo to lean toward red, rather than magenta, like you said.

I don't think I'd want to go more red with it, moving more towards the Che Guevara/communist interpretation isn't a direction I'd want to go.

Also Turkish, that JS snippet didn't seem to have any effect.

How about some of those silver naked girlie things like they have on the trucker's mudflaps?

Jeepers . . . I log off for a little while and the world shifts beneath my feet.  Congrats, Ben!  I am so glad that you are able to step up and take over this wonderful site!

ive known about cigar box guitars for quite awhile now, but never saw my first one till last winter. ive been playing guitar now for over twenty years. most of what i learned came from a magazine called guitar world. they get a lot of flack for mostly covering and giving lessons on hard rock and metal. being a metalhead you wont catch me complaing. but they also have done a really good job of covering the blues. its were i got most of my knowledge of the history of the genre. im sure if their editors knew about this website they would do a write up in the mag, its something to consider

Ben,

   I like how the nation is going.  One thing I miss is being able to see what photos are hot and getting attention.   Helps me not miss as much.  Happy thanksgiving.

John

Congratulations Ben! I'm confident that you are a good man for the job and look forward to seeing the Nation continue to grow and evolve under your leadership.

Keep up the great work!!

I feel ripper off.... Shane to me was CBN. I just don't feel the same about the change. I will say I will stay around hoping things get better. I wish you the very best. You are the face of CBN. Make us proud.
